This summer has been a disaster for Sheffield Wednesday, and after their highest league finish since the 2018/19 campaign, this should be the opportunity to build.
However, the Owls are under a transfer embargo with the EFL listing them due to “non-payment to players”, after Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay staff on time in May.
Manager Danny Rohl’s future is extremely uncertain, and supporters are finding themselves more and more detached from the club that they love by the day.
This is not the first time that Chansiri has failed to pay wages on time, having done so in March, however, the consequences of the situation are being felt strongly. Now, fans have taken to social media to protest against their owner once again.

Sheffield Wednesday fans debate how this saga will end
Supporter protests are nothing new to Sheffield Wednesday, with their away following against Leeds United back in January taking a proactive approach with leaflets at Elland Road.

However, there is also debate as to how this nightmare ends for a club that spent the vast majority of the 1990s in the Premier League as their dream of returning to the top flight looks to diminish each season.
Another supporter put: “Chansiri keeps the wolf from the door by selling any assets, rejects any offers and we live month to month. It ends with relegation, administration and he walks away with nothing and we are left in a similar situation to Derby.”
While a third wrote: “Rohl returns at end of month and stays for now as no one is having him. Chansiri pays June wages on time, and thinks all is okay. Doesn’t sign anyone before season starts. A few panic frees in mid-August (all bang average). He then agrees to sell after transfer window closes. Down by Christmas.”
“Chansiri limps on into next season by selling Pierce Charles and Djeidi Gassama. He eventually runs out of money in January when we’re on one point. Club goes into administration. Mike Ashley buys us for £20. We become the first English team in history to finish the season on negative points,” a fifth Sheffield Wednesday fan replied.
As another stated: “A prolonged war of attrition. The club somehow limps through to the start of the season with Danny reluctantly still manager, a skeleton squad and Chansiri defiantly quiet and absent. We are relegated by early 2026. It’s another 12 months at least until this is resolved.”
There appears to be no way out for the Owls
When Chansiri first arrived in 2016, supporters were glad. They had every right to be as he tried to push the club for promotion, but in recent seasons all that early hard work has unravelled rapidly and his position is now untenable.
Disdain between fans and owners never ends well for one party, and in this case it is the club that are going to taste the pain through more sanctions and it is clear to see that many are expecting the worst.
Sheffield Wednesday are a club that are now hanging on by a thread and those at Hillsborough have an anxious wait for the conclusion of this episode in the Owls’ storied history.
