Sheffield Wednesday fans will fear the worst as reporter slams Chansiri’s ‘completely unrealistic’ valuation

There appears to be no resolution in sight for Sheffield Wednesday as Dejphon Chansiri clings to control of the club amid a startling valuation of £100m.

Despite plunging Sheffield Wednesday into financial turmoil this summer and leaving the club under a transfer ban and facing potential points deductions, Dejphon Chansiri is still running the show in S6.

Talks of a takeover have been ongoing all summer, but so far there has been no real breakthrough for any of the interested parties.

We were told at least three bidders were still trying to buy the Owls recently, but whether any of them can actually reach an agreement with Chansiri is another matter.

Dom Howson says Sheffield Wednesday is not worth £100m

On Sunday it was reported that Chansiri still wanted £100m for Sheffield Wednesday. That may be £50m less than his original asking price, but has been deemed too high for any potential buyers.

Commenting on that situation, reporter Dom Howson took to Twitter/X to share his views, and insisted the valuation is well and truly standing in the way of any progress towards a solution for the Owls.

Howson wrote: “Nobody in their right mind is going to pay anywhere near £100m to buy Sheffield Wednesday. It’s a completely unrealistic asking price.

“The club, in its current state, is not even worth half that amount. It’s hard right now to see a sale happening anytime soon.”

With players terminating their own contracts, and top talents like Djeidi Gassama being sold on the cheap, the Sheffield Wednesday squad is down to its bare bones ahead of the new season.

That’s not to mention the £4m debt Chansiri will be leaving behind (at a minimum) and the fact that the club’s North Stand is not legally fit for purpose. All in all, any new owners would be taking on a massive burden in many ways.

Dejphon Chansiri should take £50m and run

There are many reasons Chansiri will not be keen to sell Sheffield Wednesday. For one, the Thai media have criticised him and it’s thought his family would not take too kindly to his failure in running the football club; especially if he comes away having made a loss on the business venture.

However, the longer he prolongs this situation, the worse it is going to get. Chansiri says he wants to sell, but he’s already reportedly turned down a $75m offer from Adam Shaw’s US-based consortium earlier this year.

As Howson says, even half of that £100m valuation would, as things stand, be a fair offer for a club in crisis. There is no place for Chansiri in Sheffield now. The fans absolutely despise him and do not want to see him anywhere near the club, so he should take what he can get and run as far away as he can.
