Sheffield Wednesday have seven players out injured as Henrik Pedersen issued double blow

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed the Owls have been dealt two further injury blows during his Portsmouth press conference.

This week, EFL Analysis exclusively revealed Wednesday fans’ boycott will be hurting Dejphon Chansiri. However, Owls fans were also hit with the news that Wednesday were under a double transfer embargo.

It’s been another rollercoaster week for the Hillsborough faithful, and that’s without touching on them getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Now, Sheffield Wednesday boss Pedersen has revealed his side will be without a further two players when they visit Pompey this Saturday.

Olaf Kobacki and Reece Johnson ruled out for weeks after Grimsby Town injuries

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Danish boss confirmed Olaf Kobacki and Reece Johnson, who were both withdrawn against Grimsby, are now sidelined for the foreseeable.

He said: “Olaf has a problem with his right groin, and I think he’ll be out until after the next international break.

“And then we have Reece, who needs stitches in his foot after the tackle on Tuesday evening – so he’ll also be out for one, two, maybe three weeks. I think that’s the newest update.”

Kobacki signed for Wednesday last summer, and at the ripe age of 24, is one of the club’s most experienced players right now. He’s started two of their five league games, playing the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup win against Bolton Wanderers and bagging one assist in that clash.

19-year-old Johnson, meanwhile, has been reduced to appearances from the bench in the league, but started both wins over Bolton and Leeds United in the cup and the loss to Grimsby.

Who are Sheffield Wednesday’s seven injured players?

At the time of writing, Kobacki and Johnson are joining five other Wednesday players on the sideline.

Pierce Charles, Di’Shon Bernard, Nathaniel Chalobah, Gui Siqueira and Bruno Fernandes are all still out of action.

Pedersen can do little about his threadbare squad too, given they are under embargo.

A lot has changed in the year since Wednesday beat Portsmouth. Only four players from that XI remain – Max Lowe, Liam Palmer, Barry Bannon and Bernard.
