The 2025/26 Championship campaign kicks off in just nine days, and Sheffield Wednesday are currently without a manager after dismissing Danny Rohl.
Earlier in July, EFL Analysis revealed that Rohl would be leaving Sheffield Wednesday after months of speculation surrounding his future.
The German pushed for a move out of Hillsborough earlier in the transfer window, and although Rohl returned to Sheffield Wednesday training, the players weren’t happy with his lack of commitment to the football club.
As his position in the dugout became ‘untenable’, Rohl’s exit was finally confirmed on Tuesday, and the 36-year-old left an emotional message to the supporters.
Unsurprisingly, some players have also responded to his departure, and one first-teamer has left a controversial message.

Di’Shon Bernard says Danny Rohl ‘deserves better’
Rohl was once adored by Sheffield Wednesday fans for doing a remarkable job under difficult circumstances.
The German tactician miraculously kept the Owls up during the 2023/24 campaign when his chances were completely written off after the damage caused by Xisco Munoz.
Supporters always felt a sense of sympathy for Rohl due to the constraints placed on him by Dejphon Chansiri, and even one of the players admitted he deserved better.
Reacting to the news of his dismissal on Instagram, defender Di’Shon Bernard wrote on his story: “From the first day you believed in me and my abilities and gave me the opportunity week in, week out to showcase them.
“You took us from rock bottom, and we were able to achieve the impossible. You made the club believe again, and for that I thank you. I wish you all the best in the future; you deserve better.”
Bernard was a key figure during Rohl’s time at the club, and during the 2023/24 campaign, helped Sheffield Wednesday stay in the Championship with 32 appearances.
The Jamaican’s move was made permanent last summer, joining from Manchester United, and now the 24-year-old is clearly saddened by the manager’s exit.
When Bernard could return from injury
Sheffield Wednesday have watched a raft of first-team players leave this summer, including the likes of Josh Windass, Michael Smith and Djeidi Gassama.
Bernard remains one of only 10 first-team players aged 21 and under currently at Sheffield Wednesday, though he is currently sidelined.
He suffered a knee injury during Wednesday’s clash against West Brom in February and has been out ever since.
The centre-back looks set to miss the start of the season and could return at the end of August or start of September, depending on how quickly he gets up to speed.
