The latest Championship game week kicks off on Friday evening with Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers facing off at Ewood Park.

When 2025 arrived, both Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough had aspirations of securing a Championship play-off place.

However, Blackburn’s form could cost them a play-off place, with the Lancashire outfit now on a run of zero wins from four under their new manager.

As for Boro, they have been inconsistent aross the entire campaign but after beating Oxford United 2-1 last time out, they have climbed right back into the battle for a fifth or sixth-place finish.

West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City both dropped points last time out, moving Michael Carrick’s men to within two points of the top six.

Blackburn vs Middlesbrough score prediction sees BBC and Sky Sports pundits disagree

Should Middlesbrough win, they will, temporarily, move up to fifth in the second tier until at least Saturday.

Blackburn, on the other hand, would only go as high as ninth if they secured the three points.

That doesn’t seem likely to happen anyway, however, with neither Sam Parkin nor Benjamin Bloom backing Rovers to pick up a victory on Friday.

Instead, the BBC and Sky Sports pundits are predicting either a Middlesbrough win or a draw.

Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast this week, Parkin predicted a 1-1 stalemate.

He said: “I don’t think Blackburn can lose five in a row, can they? I think they may find something here. I think Middlesbrough are currently a better side at home than away from the Riverside; therefore, I’m going to play out 1-1.”

Meanwhile, Bloom disagreed and picked Middlesbrough to win 2-1, replying, “Well, I disagree with you, Sam, which is a rarity. I do think Blackburn can lose five in a row.

“So I’m going to go both teams to score and Boro, that will put them inside the top five in fact going into the Saturday games. So I will back Boro to win this one 2-1.”

Blackburn Rovers vs Middlesbrough head-to-head record

Boro and Blackburn last faced off in January, with the latter coming away with a 1-0 win in the FA Cup.

They also beat Middlesbrough by the same scoreline in the reverse Championship fixture at the Riverside Stadium earlier this season.

Throughout history, it is Blackburn who have had the better of the fixture, picking up a total of 65 wins.

Middlesbrough have come out on top on 40 occasions, with the remaining 40 matches ending as draws.
