Sheffield United host Blackburn Rovers on the Championship final day, with Valerien Ismael’s side needing results to go their way to sneak into the play-off places.

Championship final day is gearing up to be a fitting conclusion to the dramatic 2024/25 second tier season.

Sheffield United host Blackburn Rovers in this weekend’s fixtures, with Chris Wilder’s side having already been condemned to a third-place finish, after the top flight promotions of Leeds United and Burnley.

Valerien Ismael’s Rovers occupy ninth-place before kick-off on Saturday, needing to take three points at Bramall Lane, while fellow play-off hopefuls adjacent to them in the Championship table drop points.

Ahead of the imperative clash for the Championship play-offs, with Rovers hot on the heels of the play-off pack before the final hurdle, one Sky Sports Pundit has made an exciting prediction for the fixture.

Sky Sports pundit predicts Sheffield United vs Blackburn Rovers outcome

Both sides come into the fixture on winning ways, with Sheffield United’s 2-0 win against Stoke City a comfortable victory for Wilder’s side, which saw the Blades reinstate their “winning culture”.

Rovers have enjoyed an impressive purple patch of form at the perfect moment, with the play-offs looming, coming into the Bramall Lane clash winning four on the bounce.

Full-back Callum Britain believes a mentality change has been the “best thing” for Rovers to revitalise their play-offs push, after pressure was mounting on Ismael only weeks ago.

Before the final day fixture, EFL Pundit and Sky Sports commentator Sam Parkin predicted a dramatic end to the campaign at Bramall Lane.

He told the Championship check-in podcast: “I’m going to go for Blackburn to win, I’ll go nil-one and just quickly having a look at it I think that still means they miss out but it could be very much what could have been when the final whistle goes given how well they’ve ended the season, but maybe Blackburn to win just miss out.”

However, his co-host Benjamin Bloom corrected Parkin, with his predictions over this weekend’s fixture of a 1-1 draw between Bristol City and Preston North End, that would see Rovers finish in sixth-place on goal difference.

He added: “Do you know what Sam, I think you have got Bristol City and Blackburn plus four plus I think you’ve got Blackburn in there on goal difference which would be absolutely incredible.”

“Blackburn’s (goal difference vs Bristol City is superior Sam plus five, plus four, so you’d have Blackburn in the play-offs.”

Parkin responded: “Bristol City plus four now? Oh my so that could come into play, wow.”

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United will not make play-offs finish easy for Blackburn Rovers

Despite already securing third-place before the final day curtails, Wilder’s Blades will be intent on spoiling Rovers’ top-six push on Saturday and gaining as much momentum as possible for the post-season campaign, given their worrying play-offs record.

Wilder wants a double record break for Sheffield United this weekend. If the Blades beat Blackburn, Wilder’s side will smash Leeds’ record from last season of 90 points without automatic promotion, and also beat the club’s record of a 91 points tally finish in the Championship from 2022/23.
