Sky Sports pundit predicts where Birmingham City will end 25/26 Championship season, ‘I think…’

Birmingham City dominated League One and will return to the Championship later this year.

After picking up another victory over the weekend, Birmingham City broke a League One record for most points secured in a single season.

They now sit on 105 with two games to go and will surpass Reading’s record of 106 in the 2005/06 Championship with one more victory.

While having their name etched into the history books remains on the cards once more, attention has now begun to turn toward next season and the Championship.

And one Sky Sports pundit has predicted where Chris Davies’ side will finish in the forthcoming campaign.

Birmingham City Championship finish prediction

Davies has outperformed Pep Guardiola during his brief but very successful spell in the Midlands.

But stepping up to the Championship brings with it a whole new set of challenges to overcome, as the quality in the second tier is much higher.

Player wages, transfer fees, and the general ability of players is far superior to League One. Despite this, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton is still backing the Blues to do well next term.

Speaking to Football League World, Prutton was asked if a top-six place will be on the cards for Birmingham, to which he replied: “Do you know what? I think so.

“They’ve tooled up going into this season, they’ve made mincemeat of League One, they seem to be a team in a hurry with ambitious ownership.

“Yes, you’ve got to make sure the ambition doesn’t outstrip what the club can do, I think they have already learned from the handling of the Wayne Rooney situation, wanting a certain type of football that ultimately ended in relegation.

“So I don’t think they’ll set them up for that particular type of fall. But they will be a team in a hurry knowing who is in charge and knowing what riches and prestige are on offer in the Premier League.”

Birmingham City transfer plan

Finishing inside the play-offs would be quite the achievement, but the club do have high ambitions going into the summer.

Owner Tom Wagner said recently that Birmingham could break their transfer record if the right deal is available to do.

The Blues already smashed the League One record last year with their signing of former Fulham player Jay Stansfield.

And we learned last month that Birmingham will be ‘aggressive’ in the market as they look to ‘do an Ipswich’ and win back-to-back promotions.
