Birmingham City are back in the Championship following a sensational 2024/25 but are still a division below their closest rivals.
Birmingham City have completed transfers already this summer, and a lot more work is expected to be done once the transfer window reopens next week.
The Blues have been linked with former winger Demarai Gray recently, while the Kwame Poku transfer saga continues to drag on.
Ahead of 2025/26 getting underway, Birmingham have been handed a positive Championship prediction.
And should they secure a long-awaited return to the top tier of English football, they will be competing alongside old rivals, Aston Villa.

Pundit explains why Aston Villa are bigger than Birmingham City
Birmingham think they’ll reach the Premier League next year, meaning a derby clash could be on the cards very soon.
Despite the rivalry between Villa and the Blues, Birmingham have been linked with Louie Barry.
It would be an interesting move given the two clubs’ history, and one Sky Sports pundit has now been discussing the Midlands duo.
Lee Hendrie has been asked by Football League World who is the bigger club out of Aston Villa and Birmingham.
And he thinks there’s ‘no doubt’ that it is Unai Emery’s team, no matter who is the owner of the Blues.
He said: “There’s absolutely no doubt who are the biggest football club. I don’t care what owners are at Birmingham City and who is involved at their club, Aston Villa has been the biggest club in the Midlands for quite some time, and it will still be the biggest club in the Midlands, regardless of who is taking control at Birmingham City.”

What Tom Wagner has said about Aston Villa
Birmingham owner Tom Wagner commented on Aston Villa and the rivalry between the two teams recently.
When doing so, he said it was the ‘top objective’ to get his club back in the top flight and competing against Villa.
Wagner stated: “It’s absolutely a top objective. It’s the right rivalry for Birmingham, the right derby for English football, and the right way for each club to achieve its highest potential is by rekindling a rivalry that’s been dormant for too long.
“When I speak to the true fans on both sides of that rivalry, I get the same reaction, which is that they’d love to see it.”
