Wycombe Wanderers boss Mike Dodds has spoken positively about the 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic, noting the tactical battle between the two sides.
Wycombe Wanderers’ first leg with Charlton Athletic ended as a stalemate, with neither side being able to carve open a breakthrough.
Opportunities in front of the goal were few and far between for both Wycombe and Charlton, with both sides just notching seven shots each.
After the contest, Charlton boss Nathan Jones has admitted that it was a ‘tight affair’ between the two sides, a fair reflection on the 0-0 draw.
Wycombe fans have also had their say on the result, one which they admit reflects well on Mike Dodds, who did well to help his side notch a respectable draw against an in-form Charlton side. The Wycombe boss has since given his thoughts on the tie, one that he set out to do one thing before.

Wycombe Wanderers boss Mike Dodds shares insight into tactical decisions vs Charlton Athletic
When watching the game, it was clear that both sides were set out to nullify the attacking abilities of the opponent, a decision that ensured that it would be a cagey contest with very few openings.
It certainly wasn’t one to remember for the neutrals, but Dodds was happy with his side’s efforts, despite it being ‘messy’ at times.
Per Bucks Free Press, Dodds said: “They were so aggressive in the first phase that we didn’t want to give them momentum.
“This is why we decided not to pass in front of them.
“Everyone contributed to what they needed to do today, and even though it was messy at times, I felt we landed on the second ball better.
“This was something we didn’t do in the first game [on April 21], and we spoke about this at length.
“When we looked at Charlton, we looked at the nuts and bolts of what we needed to do, and we managed to nullify their threats.
“Both teams cancelled each other out, but when that happens, you need a moment.”

Mike Dodds will be buzzing with Charlton Athletic result for key reason
On the surface, Wycombe, as has been the case in every EFL Championship play-off game so far, were unable to notch a win on home soil, which usually hands the advantage to Charlton, however that isn’t the case with this Chairboys side.
In League One, Wycombe Wanderers have the second-best away form, having won 42 points on their travels in 23 games, having only won fewer than table-toppers Birmingham City.
Charlton’s form at the Valley is also respectable, having won the 4th most points on home soil in the division, but Dodds, as well as Wycombe fans, will be aware of their fortunes on their travels, and will very much be optimistic going into the deciding leg.
