Hull City signed Oli McBurnie this summer, and it has now been revealed that the Scotsman turned down bigger money from one former club.
This summer saw multiple Championship clubs alerted to the availability of Oli McBurnie following his departure from La Liga side Las Palmas.
Former clubs Sheffield United and Swansea City were keen to bring the Scotsman back, whilst Hull City and Ipswich Town also sounded out McBurnie as a viable striker option.
After weeks mulling over his options, McBurnie decided to join Hull City after Acun Ilicali offered the forward a three-year, lucrative contract.
It was initially thought that McBurnie had joined Hull City due to the money on offer, but it has now been revealed that one of his former clubs offered him a larger salary.

Swansea City contract details revealed as Oli McBurnie turned down Swans return
It was clear that Scottish international Oli McBurnie had many admirers this summer due to his proven record at Championship level.
Hull City managed to get ahead in the race and tied down McBurnie to a three-year contract, however it was actually Swansea City who offered him the largest salary.
As reported by Alan Nixon via Patreon, McBurnie turned down a ‘bigger’ contract offer at Swansea City than he picked up at Hull City, which ‘included massive promotion bonuses’. It is understood that they had also matched the three years that Hull had offered.
Sheffield United, on the other hand, only offered a two-year deal to their former player, which included a salary that was lower than both Hull City and Swansea City’s offers.

Gametime guarantees may have swung in Hull City’s favour
There is no disguising the fact that Hull City’s 2024/25 campaign was abysmal, particularly in an attacking sense after the Tigers recorded the lowest goals of any Championship side in the season.
With Joao Pedro moving on from the MKM Stadium as well, it was obvious that bodies were needed through the door.
Hull City may not have offered as much to Oli McBurnie, compared to his former side Swansea City, but guarantees over game time may have been a factor.
It is expected that McBurnie will be the top option to lead the line for the Tigers this season, despite the signing of Joe Gelhardt, and that may very well have aligned perfectly with the Scotsman’s ambitions.
