Plymouth Argyle endured a tough weekend which resulted in Miron Muslic leaving the club, but EFL Analysis can now exclusively reveal that a frontrunner in the search for a new manager has come to the fore.
The Pilgrims suffered relegation this season despite a spirited fight at the back end of the campaign, leading to widespread praise for the work Muslic did since joining the club.
However, this, of course, led to increased attention for the Austrian coach, and over the weekend, he made it clear he would like to move on.
In the end, Plymouth chairman Simon Hallett was left with ‘no choice’ but to let Muslic go to Schalke. Not ideal preparation for life in League One, but the club may now have found his replacement already.

What we know about Stephen Robinson and Plymouth Argyle
In the wake of Muslic’s exit, Ian Evatt has been linked with the Plymouth job, but fans have also pointed out that Jack Wilshere could be a good fit.
Now, thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can confirm St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is of interest to Plymouth Argyle, and they have spoken to him about a possible move to Home Park.
It is said former frontrunner Jack Wilshere is still very much in contention for the role, along with former Watford boss Tom Cleverley and ex-Oxford chief Des Buckingham.
However, we are told St Mirren are hoping to persuade Robinson to sign a contract extension to discourage the interest from south of the border and, in particular, Plymouth Argyle.
Stephen Robinson’s managerial stats
The Northern Irish manager was appointed to the role at St Mirren in February 2022, and he has guided the club to a top-six finish every campaign in which he had a pre-season.
Robinson got the role due to his work at both Morecambe and Motherwell previously, after he initially struggled to adapt to management with his first role at Oldham Athletic.
| Team | Matches | Win Percentage | |
| 2006-07 | Oldham Athletic | 33 | 21.2% |
| 2017-20 | Motherwell | 169 | 42% |
| 2021-22 | Morecambe | 40 | 25% |
| 2022-present | St Mirren | 148 | 35.6% |
The former Northern Ireland international has plenty of experience of both the Championship and League One during his playing career.
Plymouth may hope he can use his experience of promotion as a player between those divisions with Luton Town, combined with his ability as a manager, to get Plymouth straight back up to the Championship following their relegation last season.
