Middlesbrough have to beat Coventry City on Saturday, but history really isn’t on their side.
Boro go into the Championship final day looking to make a late push back into the top six.
Middlesbrough fell out of the play-off places after a poor run of form, which most recently included a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at their ground, where the Owls had been awful, and a 0-0 draw with Norwich City.
It leaves the Teessiders ninth in the division going into their meeting with Coventry City, needing to win and then hope Millwall and Blackburn Rovers slip up in their fixtures.

One supercomputer suggests that Coventry will beat Middlesbrough this weekend, which is not too surprising given the history between the pair.

Middlesbrough have never won at Coventry City’s stadium
Middlesbrough and Coventry have ‘problems’ going into the match, with neither side on a great run of form.
However, it is the Sky Blues who have had the better of this fixture in recent memory.
They have won the last four and scored three goals in the previous three meetings, while Boro’s record at the Coventry Building Society Arena is awful.
The CBS Arena opened back in 2005. Since that time, Middlesbrough have played Coventry away on nine occasions.
The North East outfit have not won a single fixture at said ground, with their only away victory coming on March 2nd, 2021.
But that clash was played behind closed doors at Birmingham City’s ground due to Covid restrictions, meaning the Teessiders remain winless at the CBS since it was opened.

Last time Middlesbrough scored away vs Coventry
As expected, given they haven’t won a single game, it’s been some time since Boro even scored a goal at the upcoming opponent’s stadium.
The last meeting between the pair at the CBS ended in a 3-0 victory for the Sky Blues in August 2023.
You have to go all the way back to January 2012 for the last time Middlesbrough found the net away to Coventry.
Scott McDonald scored that goal, with centre-back Matty Bates also netting an own goal in the 3-1 defeat.
