Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has spoken about Birmingham City’s 2024/25 League One-winning campaign and the records they broke.
In the 2024/25 League One campaign, a newly formed derby ensued as Tom Brady’s Birmingham City faced off against Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham.
The pair fought it out, finishing in the top two automatic promotion spots to move up to the Championship, but Birmingham came out in front after a record-breaking League One campaign.
There has been a friendly rivalry between the two clubs, and that will no doubt continue next season in the Championship.
As both clubs gear up for the 2025/26 season, Wrexham co-owner Reynolds has been asked his thoughts on Birmingham’s title-winning campaign, to which he gave a nod to one record they broke.

Ryan Reynolds praises Birmingham City’s record-breaking 2024/25 season
Despite the rivalries between the two sides, Reynolds was quick to heap Birmingham City with praise following their incredible League One season.
When asked about the Blues and their return to the Championship, Reynolds said: “They were great this year, Birmingham. They were [on] 111 points, which I think is a record that only one other team has ever hit 111 points… I think it was Wrexham. Yeah, we did it, but we did it in the National League, which is much lower. They were great, Birmingham, a great team.”
In the two games that Wrexham faced Birmingham in League One last season, the Blues won 3-1 at St Andrews, with Jay Stansfield scoring two of the decisive goals, whilst the reverse fixture at the Racecourse Ground ended all square.
Wrexham and Birmingham rivalry will push both sides to their limit next season
Going into the 2025/26 Championship season, both Wrexham and Birmingham City are two of the biggest unknowns.
There could be an Ipswich Town-esque campaign in the offing for either of the American-owned sides with both clubs showing ambition and not ruling out an immediate promotion to the Premier League, but the jump up to the Championship could also be an unexpected one.
One thing we do know is that the constant comparisons between the two clubs will drive both to outdo each other. Both Wrexham and Birmingham will no doubt show ambition this summer to build on last season’s success, and as a result, it would be no surprise to see both teams in the higher echelons of the Championship table.
