Sheffield Wednesday are now 23rd in the Championship table after a crushing 3-0 defeat to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

It was the Owls’ second loss from two games in the league, with only bitter rivals Sheffield United below them in the table currently.

Henrik Pedersen believes a dry pitch at Hillsborough did not help his team in the contest in South Yorkshire, but their lack of depth proved to be a downfall once again as the club continues to struggle with financial issues.

However, they may soon find an answer to some of their questions out wide with a former Norwich City winger now training with Sheffield Wednesday.

Onel Hernandez spotted training with Sheffield Wednesday

Onel Hernandez left Norwich in the summer as a free agent, making 23 Championship appearances for the Canaries in his final campaign in Norfolk.

Now, according to a fresh report from The Star, the 32-year-old has been training with the Owls over the course of the last week as he assesses his options for the 2025/26 campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday remain under a three-window transfer ban, but they are able to sign free agents and loanees. Therefore, a move for the winger would be extremely welcome.

However, at this moment in time, it is unknown how much longer he will be at Middlewood Road. Jack Hunt has also spent time with Sheffield Wednesday recently, with the right-back looking for fitness after departing Bristol Rovers.

Onel Hernandez has done excellently in the Championship before

At 32, there is no denying that Hernandez is in the final years of his career, but he played a crucial role in helping Norwich to the Premier League on two separate occasions.

In the 2018/19 campaign, the Cuba international scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in 40 Championship appearances as the Canaries beat Sheffield United to the league title.

He, like the rest of his teammates, struggled in the top flight. This struggle continued on his return to the second tier, but he still played 21 times as Norwich won the title once again.

He was loaned out to Middlesbrough for the next season, then Birmingham City, before returning to Carrow Road in 2022. However, Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping that they can add some much-needed experience to their ranks soon.
