Blackburn Rovers were busy throughout the summer transfer window as they welcomed several new faces to Ewood Park, while the club also said farewell to other players who made their way through the exit door.

The Lancashire club lost some key figures as they saw their former captain Lewis Travis go to Derby County, Callum Brittain made an exit to join Middlesbrough, and on deadline day Dominic Hyam joined Wrexham.

However, the club did also make several signings to join Blackburn as they welcomed Sidnei Tavares from Moreirense, Sean McLoughlin from Hull City and Ryan Alebiosu from Kortrijk.

Now Valerien Ismael has named the signing that is the ‘full package’ to have joined Blackburn Rovers over the summer transfer window.

Valerien Ismael believes Andri Gudjohnsen is the ‘full package’

Blackburn Rovers were one of many clubs in the Championship completing their transfer business on deadline day; however, they were not as busy as other sides.

One deadline day signing that Blackburn made was Andri Gudjohnsen from Gent, and speaking with the club website, Valerien Ismael spoke of his excitement to welcome him to the club.

Ismael said: “I think that we were always seeking someone in the front.

“He’s only 23, he’s an international player and perfect for the profile we want. He’s a young player but still has the experience, just as [Sidnei] Tavares and Ryan [Alebiosu] have. This is the profile that we’ve wanted, and he’ll bring experience and some room to improve as well.

“Our job now is to give him the opportunity to express himself because he’s lost his way a little bit, but he shines for the national team every time and is always ready to go, so we’re here for him to take the next step.

“You’ll always be judged on your goals and assists at the end of the season if you’re a striker. He’ll bring more than that and bring the full package for us. He’s a complete striker, so I hope he can bring all his qualities to the pitch.

“We’re looking forward to working with him.”

Who is Andri Gudjohnsen?

The Icelandic international is a well-travelled striker, having played in Spain, Sweden and Denmark before a season in Belgium.

English football fans will know his name due to his more famous father, Eidur Gudjohnsen, who won two Premier Leagues during his time in England.

While he has not been prolific to this point in his career, he is still young, but he has had time to train with the best young players in the world, having been part of the Real Madrid academy.

Time will tell whether he will be successful at Blackburn, but he is expected to bring pace and power to the forward line of Ismael’s side, with fans hopeful that he can bring goals.
