Blackburn Rovers fans claim latest exit is ‘worse than losing Lewis Travis’ as Wrexham agree £2.7m deal

Blackburn Rovers supporters have branded the impending shock exit of one of their players as ‘worse than losing Lewis Travis’.

The Championship side sold captain Travis to Derby County last week, making him the third player to leave directly for Pride Park to reunite with former Rovers manager John Eustace this summer.

There have been a whopping 15 departures from Ewood Park this summer, while fees have been spent on seven new players, including Ryoya Morishita who signed for just under £2million.

Valerien Ismael said the club had not planned to be busy on transfer deadline day. However, Blackburn now look set to lose another player – and some Rovers fans think this sale would be hard to justify.

Blackburn Rovers agree deal with Wrexham for Dom Hyam

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn have agreed a £2.7million deal for Rovers defender Dom Hyam.

The centre-half has played every minute of the new Championship campaign and the last, racking up 135 appearances for the Lancashire club since signing from Coventry City in 2022.

The report states it was not in Rovers plans to let him leave, but that the club felt the money was ‘too good to turn down’ as Wrexham flex their transfer muscles once again.

Hyam only has a year left on his contract, but some Blackburn fans are furious with the club for letting ‘more Championship experience go’.

“Losing Hyam is worse than losing Travis,” one fan wrote on X in reaction to the news.

A second said: “Something is not right. This is not a realistic way to build a football team. We have completely drained our team of experience and quality. I was never Hyam’s biggest fan, but I can’t see a world where VI is happy to lose 5 of his best 11, in 1 window. Absolute madness, if we survive this season, I’ll be gobsmacked.”

A third added: “7 key players have departed this summer. Over 1000 championship games played between them all and they’ve all left. Absolute insanity. Genuinely cannot wrap my head around that.”

While Hyam could yet leave Ewood Park, there are reports of a potential arrival.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman from Birmingham City Blackburn’s only transfer day incoming

The Lancashire Telegraph have also reported Birmingham’s Taylor Gardner-Hickman could sign for Blackburn on Monday.

Rovers are said to want the versatile Blues player on loan. The 23-year-old has only been at St Andrew’s for eight months after joining permanently for £1.5 million.

He had initially been on loan from Bristol City but played a viral role in Chris Davies’ Blues transformation.

Reports suggest he will arrive at Ewood Park should the Hyam move to Wrexham go through.
