Valerien Ismael has already been told why Carlos Vicente would be the ideal Tyrhys Dolan replacement

Blackburn Rovers need to make some moves in the transfer window if they are to compete next season, with a winger surely at the top of their shopping list after the departure of Tyrhys Dolan.

It was a strange season for Blackburn in 2024/25, with John Eustace putting the Lancashire outfit in contention for the play-offs before departing for Derby County in a shock move.

Valerien Ismael came in and had a torrid start, but eventually got Rovers performing. In the end, they just missed out on the play-offs, but if they’re to go one better next season, they’ll need reinforcements this summer.

According to Ismael, Tyrhys Dolan is moving on with his contract now expired, leaving Blackburn with a huge creative void out wide. But, a former Birmingham City target could be the solution.

Alaves manager praises Carlos Vicente’s creative qualities

Throughout this summer, Birmingham were linked with Carlos Vicente. In the end, the Blues went and signed Demarai Gray, which suggests they are no longer in need of a new winger.

With Birmingham City out of the picture, and Olympiakos stalling on a deal for Vicente, that surely paves the way for another EFL club to swoop in for the La Liga talent.

And, based on Alaves manager Eduardo Coudet’s comments about Vicente back in April (via Tribuna), he’d be a great fit for Blackburn given their current requirements.

Coudet said: “We’re a team that needs to work on movement and ball circulation. We lack that player who can dribble past opponents and create a goal from nothing. The closest to that role is Carlos Vicente, but he’s more comfortable moving wide than playing centrally.”

Blackburn Rovers desperately need to replace Tyrhys Dolan

Tyrhys Dolan may have more to prove if he wants to secure a top flight move, but there’s no denying the 23-year-old is a quality player whom Blackburn will sorely miss.

With seven goals and six assists last season, Dolan was Blackburn’s main source of goal contributions last term, and replacing him won’t be easy.

Vicente will command a decent transfer fee, but if the Rovers hierarchy genuinely want the club to make progress, this is exactly the kind of ambitious move that would help bring the fans back onside

The Spaniard bagged five goals and six assists in La Liga last season and given the quality of football there, you’d have to imagine that would translate to even more in the Championship.
