The 2025/26 Championship is poised to be one of the most competitive second tier campaigns to date.
Recently relegated trio Ipswich Town, Leicester and Southampton are hunting for an instant return to the top tier of English football.
This season’s play-off losers, Sheffield United, Coventry City, and Bristol City will all be hoping to go one better after Sunderland earned Premier League promotion via the end-of-season campaign.
Elsewhere, Hollywood-backed duo Wrexham and Birmingham City will be fighting to make further history, and earn successive promotions to the Premier League promised land.
As the summer transfer window ramps up, so does anticipation for next season’s fixture list, with the EFL’s release day date looming.

When 25/26 Championship fixtures are revealed by the EFL
All 24 teams confirmed for the 25/26 Championship season have now been set, which will see some of the biggest names in English football absent from next season’s second tier.
The conclusion of the 24/25 second tier season saw Leeds United crowned champions, with Burnley ending runners-up, and Sunderland earn promotion through the play-offs.
In terms of relegation to League One, Luton Town, Cardiff City, and Plymouth Argyle all fell to the third tier.
Therefore, all six of those clubs will not be keeping an eye on the Championship fixture release day for next season, which will be upon EFL fans in the coming weeks.
According to the EFL, fixture release day occurs on June 26 (Thursday), with the schedule of clashes being released at noon.
On that date, all Championship, League One, and League Two sides will learn their fixture list for the new campaign.
In terms of the kick-off, the 25/26 campaign will begin over the weekend of August 8-10 in the Championship, and the weekend of August 1-3 for the third and fourth tiers.
In a similar fashion to this season, the Championship play-off final will be played on May 23, 2026. The League One play-off final will be held on May 24, and the fourth tier final the following day, on May 25.

Many changes in Championship dugouts could be happening ahead of 25/26
Business has been booming across the Championship so far in the summer window, with multiple managerial changes taking place in the early exchanges.
Liam Manning has been hired by Norwich for the upcoming campaign, seeing the head coach depart Bristol City in the wake of their 6-0 aggregate play-off semi-final defeat to the Blades.
Leicester City are yet to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy after Russell Martin snubbed the Foxes in favour of a move north of the border to Rangers.
Uncertainty persists over Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday, with the German head coach seemingly intent on leaving the club as Wednesday face EFL charges over payment delays.
Additionally, Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough future will be decided soon, after the Manchester United legend oversaw Boro’s disappointing drop-off outside of the play-off places.
With an array of managerial changes ahead this summer, and new transfer links coming on a seemingly hourly basis, there is plenty of news to kill time with as the countdown to second tier action kicking off once more begins.
