Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market for their 2025/26 Championship season to ensure they maintain their status for the next campaign as a minimum.

While life in the Championship did not get off to a fantastic start, as they lost 2-1 to Southampton in dramatic fashion in their campaign opener.

The Red Dragons also suffered another blow in that match, as their debutant Kieffer Moore had to be withdrawn from the game with a concerning-looking ankle injury.

They were then involved in another dramatic game during the week when they overcame Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

Phil Parkinson is still looking to strengthen his squad before the window closes, as seen with the deal to acquire Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town.

Phil Parkinson is a fan of Oli McBurnie

One player that stood out to Phil Parkinson during Wrexham’s Carabao Cup with Hull City was Oli McBurnie.

The Scottish international made the switch to Hull City this summer, deciding to leave La Liga and join the Tigers for free.

While Wrexham will not be thinking about adding the striker to their side, Parkinson is still a huge admirer of the striker, one he gave a debut to at Bradford City.

Speaking with Hull Live, he said: “He’s had a great career, Oli.

“I gave him his debut; I think he was 17 at Bradford, and I always felt that he had a talent to score, then we sold him to Swansea when we were in a bit of financial problems one summer. The amazing thing was that the sell-on after I’d left created a lot of money for the club, which they needed to build the club moving forward.

“I’m pleased to see a young lad we’ve had do so well; he’s had a good career, and yes, looking at him (against Wrexham), he looks a really good player still.”

Striking options for Wrexham

Wrexham have a large squad, with a depth of quality particularly in attack after their summer business ahead of the Championship season.

They have recently added Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town to the club to reinforce the options.

However, they already had several top-class options up top for the club, including summer signings Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass.

This adds to the quality that they already had at the club in Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez, with the pair scoring nine goals between them last season.
