Wrexham AFC’s narrative has been dramatically rewritten since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover in February 2021.

Few clubs in the EFL have had such a meteoric rise, with names that have truly defined this remarkable modern era.

Led by Hollywood ownership, Wrexham have achieved back-to-back promotions from the National League to the Championship, a feat unmatched in English football history.

Strikers are often where the headlines are made, and Wrexham’s journey has been spearheaded by a host of talented forwards.

The club’s most iconic recent goalscorer, Paul Mullin, has been central to this, his incredible goal tally earning him legendary status.

EFL Analysis has taken a look at Wrexham’s top five most prolific goalscorers in club history, with all fees derived from Transfermarkt.

Wrexham’s top five scorers

5. Elliott Lee (39 goals)

A vital name in Wrexham’s recent rise, Elliott Lee has been instrumental since his arrival. Primarily an attacking midfielder, he has a knack for arriving late in the box and scoring crucial goals, which has been invaluable.

In 147 games, he’s netted 39 goals, maintaining a solid 0.27 goals-per-game ratio, which is impressive for his position. Lee continued to be a key creator and scorer in the 2024/25 League One season, with 8 goals and 3 assists in 38 league appearances (26 starts), helping send Wrexham into the Championship.

4. Ollie Palmer (42 goals)

The 6ft 5in striker, signed in January 2022, played a pivotal role in Wrexham’s National League title win, quickly forming a strong partnership with Paul Mullin. In 149 games, Palmer has scored 42 goals, a 0.28 goals-per-game record that highlights his consistency.

His physical presence and ability to hold up play are just as crucial as his goalscoring. In the 2024/25 League One season, Palmer contributed 3 goals and 2 assists in 27 league appearances (26 starts).

3. Andy Morrell (44 goals)

A Wrexham legend both as a player and later as a manager, Andy Morrell was a talented forward during his playing days at the Racecourse Ground. Across 196 games, he found the back of the net 44 times, averaging 0.22 goals per game.

His dedication and leadership were highly valued during his time with the club. Morrell was remembered for his consistent efforts and goal contributions during a challenging period for the club before the recent takeover.

1. Paul Mullin (105 goals)

The Dragons’ goalscoring king of Wrexham, Paul Mullin’s impact has been transformative. Since joining in 2021, his sensational goal tallies have directly fuelled Wrexham’s rise. It’s worth noting that Mullin, coming from a League Two golden boot-winning season with Cambridge United, had to be personally convinced by co-owner Rob McElhenney to drop down to the National League, a testament to the club’s ambitious vision.

In just 165 games, he has scored an incredible 105 goals, boasting an astounding 0.64 goals per game ratio. His prolificacy in the National League (47 goals in 2022/23) and League Two (26 goals in 2023/24) firmly cemented his legend, making him the most impactful forward in the club’s recent history.
