Blackburn Rovers need to move for summer transfer target in January to solve defensive crisis

The summer transfer window has only closed; however, there will be some fans of Blackburn Rovers who will be looking at the January market and how the team can evolve further with more additions.

Valerien Ismael has already spoken about assessing his team and being prepared to dip into the January transfer market should they need it.

However, fans have already addressed concerns about the current state of the Blackburn squad due to the lack of options at the back.

This has seen them linked to Craig Dawson as short-term cover, while there is a belief that this may allow a player like Tom Atcheson to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Yet, there is one target Blackburn had been linked to all summer that they should explore once again in the January window to address this positional shortcoming.

Blackburn Rovers should target Steve Kapuadi

For several weeks across the summer Blackburn Rovers had been linked to the central defender Steve Kapuadi.

The Congolese international has continued his fine form that has seen him linked to a move from Poland to England this summer, as he helped Legia Warsaw win the Polish Super Cup last month.

Blackburn were able to convince his former teammate Ryoya Morishita to make the move from Poland to Lancashire, and they may be hoping he can have a word with Kapuadi in order to convince him to help cover their lack of options in central defence.

Kapuadi was flattered with being linked with a move to Blackburn during the summer, and he may be interested in making a deal happen if he is encouraged by what he sees from Ismael’s side ahead of the January transfer window and if they can match his demands.

Potential options at centre back

It has been identified that centre back is a concern for Blackburn Rovers fans at present due to only having three senior options at the club that operate in this position.

This has seen the club linked to Craig Dawson and to Kortney Hause, who has played for Aston Villa; however, there do not appear to be any concrete talks with either player at the time of writing but they are options the club are set to explore.

Valerien Ismael spoke about his happiness with the squad he currently has, which may concern fans further, as there is always a possibility of an injury crisis that could have a detrimental impact upon Blackburn, who have made a poor start to the Championship campaign with growing worries that they may be involved in a relegation battle this season.
