Bristol City could lose talisman for nothing thanks to Liam Manning’s inevitable Norwich City move

Bristol City’s hopes of keeping a star player may have taken a turn for the worse as Liam Manning edges closer to becoming the next Norwich City manager.

EFL Analysis revealed that Manning is set to take the Norwich job, weeks after falling short in the Championship play-offs with Bristol City.

Manning will have a decent amount to spend at Norwich and will return to the place of his birth following the Canaries’ decision to sack Johannes Hoff Thorup in April.

There is every chance that some Bristol City players could follow Manning to Carrow Road and the Robins will be hoping to keep the core of their squad together in a bid to launch another play-off charge.

However, there could be one player that could head for the exit door along with the 39-year-old for a journey elsewhere.

Bristol City still waiting for Nahki Wells contract decision

Nahki Wells may be 34, but is a fan favourite at Ashton Gate.

Wells bagged 10 goals in 41 Championship games and impressed while leading the line for the Robins.

His contract expires at the end of this season and Manning has told Bristol City to sort Wells’ contract out.

Now that the manager seems destined to swap Bristol for Norfolk, this could impact the forward’s decision to stay with the club and potentially move on somewhere else.

Football League fans will know that Wells has been a prolific goal scorer over the years, whether that be with Huddersfield Town or Burnley.

Wells has always been reliable for Bristol City – with his best goal return being 11 goals in the 2020/21 season and 2022/23 campaigns respectively.

Season Goals
2019/205
2020/2111
2021/223
2022/2311
2023/248
2024/2510

His other years saw him score three times and eight goals but under Manning this season, has bagged 10 in all competitions.

Of course, it’s not generational numbers and at 34, it’s a surprise to see him play so many games.

But, with the 39-year-old seemingly leaving, Wells’ decision may now be influenced by that.
