Departure of ‘unbelievable’ talent to Championship rivals may be Ipswich Town’s biggest summer transfer regret

Ipswich Town have been incredibly busy in the transfer market as they looked to strengthen their squad to attempt to achieve promotion this season; however, they have sanctioned the departure of a player that may come back to haunt them.

While there will have been excitement about the signing of Marcelino Nunez from Norwich City in the Ipswich Town fan base, as they managed to lure the Canaries’ best player to Portman Road.

Ipswich Town may come to regret that they allowed another Championship rival to lure one of their players away for the upcoming campaign, as this may have a detrimental impact upon their ambitions to secure promotion.

While Kieran McKenna may argue that they have sufficient cover in this position, the decision to allow this Ipswich Town ace to leave may be their biggest regret of the summer.

Ipswich Town may regret the loan deal for Chiedozie Ogbene

The Tractor Boys sanctioned the loan move for Chiedozie Ogbene to leave the club on loan for the season to join Sheffield United.

While the Blades have had a terrible start to the season under Ruben Selles, their worst in 30 years at any level outside the top flight, the Spanish manager will hope the Republic of Ireland international can help correct this form.

Ogbene suffered a season-ending injury at the start of last campaign for Ipswich in the Premier League, and McKenna may hope he can get fit and back to where he was before his injury while at Sheffield United.

McKenna is a fan of Ogbene and will be pleased that he will make a return to Ipswich Town; however, he may not be patient enough for that to occur at the club and so will hope he can find form at Sheffield United.

Ipswich may regret this, as it is still early in the season and neither club has started in a manner in which they wanted, and they will both be planning on turning their campaigns around, and Ogbene may help Sheffield United deny the Tractor Boys promotion to the Premier League.

Chiedozie Ogbene impressed Sheffield United favourite

The Republic of Ireland international has impressed many people in the past few seasons as he rose from League One to the Premier League, from Rotherham United to Ipswich Town and Luton Town.

Now he has returned to Yorkshire with Sheffield United; one of his early fans was fellow Republic of Ireland international and former Blades favourite John Egan.

Speaking in March 2022, through Yahoo Sports, he said: “I was at Brentford when he signed, so I already knew what Chieo was about when he came into the squad in the summer. He has been a breath of fresh air, on and off the pitch.

“He’s a special person, really humble and hard-working. He came in, got his chance, and grabbed it with both hands, and it’s fair to say his performances have been unbelievable, really, since he’s come into the team.

“Another goal on Saturday will only do him the world of good for his confidence. He is a really top man and has shown everybody what a top player he is.”
