Sheffield Wednesday fans spotted Danny Rohl do one thing in his lap of honour following the draw with Portsmouth.

Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Portsmouth in their final game at Hillsborough Stadium of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Owls have endured a much improved season under Danny Rohl, but ultimately were unable to notch his lofty ambitions of finishing in the Championship play-off places, an aim that would always be difficult to achieve for his squad.

For Sheffield Wednesday, the result and performance on the pitch were secondary to the protests in the stands, as well as in Sheffield city centre and Hillsborough Park ahead of the game, as thousands approached the stadium donning yellow colours, making their feelings known over the current owner, Dejphon Chansiri.

The troubles off the pitch have caused uncertainties surrounding Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday, and some fans spotted the German boss doing one thing that could be a departing gesture.

Sheffield Wednesday fans notice Danny Rohl bow following Portsmouth draw

For several players, it could have been their last time playing for Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough Stadium, with several players’ future still an uncertainty in S6.

Another man who may not be at the club for the 2025/26 Championship campaign is Danny Rohl, who has been linked with a move to Southampton, as well as recently relegated Leicester City.

The fans who stayed behind at Hillsborough Stadium to show appreciation for Rohl, the squad, and the staff noticed the German bow in front of the vocal Kop End at the end of the clash, an action that could be perceived as a goodbye gesture from the popular coach in S6.

Danny Rohl brought stability to the club against all odds

If Rohl is to leave Sheffield Wednesday following the end of this season, the Owls boss will certainly leave with a great reputation for the job he has done at the club.

At the time when Xisco Munoz left the club, Sheffield Wednesday looked set-on for an immediate return to League One, but the German boss did a brilliant job to steer the ship to survival on the last day in an away win at Sunderland.

Sheffield Wednesday have even undergone troubles behind the scenes this season, something that would derail many sides, but not Rohl’s Owls side, who, despite playing one game unpaid, and many being entirely uncertain on their future at the club, they still gave 100%, and much of that comes down to the impact that the German had on the squad.
