Birmingham City faced off with Bristol Rovers in a League One meeting on Tuesday, April 1.

The Blues went into the tie eyeing a historic League One record set by Wolves over a decade ago.

However, despite completely dominating the third tier this season, Birmingham City struggled against Bristol Rovers.

Rovers were sat in the bottom half of the table prior to kick-off, but still caused Chris Davies’ side problems.

Keshi Anderson fired the away outfit into the lead after three minutes and it looked as though Birmingham would go on to dominate.

However, Gatlin O’Donkor hit back for Bristol Rovers 16 minutes later and the Midlands outfit had a tough time finding a second goal.

Birmingahm did beat Bristol Rovers 2-1, however, thanks to a late goal from Jay Stansfield.

Jay Stansfield won the game, but another Birmingham City star impressed vs Bristol Rovers

Stanfield stepped up from 12 yards after a Bristol player was adjudged to have handled the ball in his box.

The League One record signing now has 16 league goals and two assists in 28 appearances since his summer move.

But while it was Stansfield who won the game and saw Birmingham take one step closer to the title, it was another player who really shone on the night.

The man in question was Anderson, who scored the opening goal and had a generally superb evening.

The winger caused problems down Rovers’ right all evening, making some key passes and testing the opposition goalkeeper.

Keshi Anderson stats after Birmingham City beat Bristol Rovers

Anderson was heavily involved in the limited positive attacking play from Birmingham on the night.

He had 75 touches, the majority of which were inside the Bristol half down Birmingham’s left.

It was not only going forward were the wide man excelled, however, also working tirelessly to get back and help out defensively.

The 29-year-old linked up with his teammates to great effect and is surely set for a start later this month when the Blues face Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy final.
