Birmingham City and Jay Stansfield are enjoying unrivaled success this season but the forward has been the subject of ridicule this week.
Tom Brady made a promise to Birmingham City fans after watching his club suffer relegation from the Championship on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign.
With Brady’s help, however, the Blues have been completely transformed in the 2024/25 season following their arrival in the third tier.
Birmingham could smash a League One record this term and even surpass Reading for the most points won by any club in a single EFL season.
The Midlands outfit have whipped the floor with the competition in League One, already boasting a very healthy lead over second and third place.
| 1st | Birmingham City | 36 | 25 | 8 | 3 | 59 | 24 | 35 | 83 |
| 2nd | Wycombe Wanderers | 37 | 20 | 11 | 6 | 64 | 36 | 28 | 71 |
| 3rd | Wrexham | 37 | 21 | 8 | 8 | 51 | 30 | 21 | 71 |
Their success in the current campaign is in no small part down to the huge amount of money they spent in the summer, most notably on Jay Stansfield.

Jay Stansfield mocked after Birmingham City post
The 22-year-old completed a mega-money move in the summer, moving to St Andrew’s for somewhere in the region of £15m – completely smashing the previous League One transfer record of around £4m.
He’s since scored 16 and assisted two in 27 league games this term and, after such a prolific start, Birmingham’s official X/Twitter account was showing some love to Stansfield this week.
The club posted a picture of their record signing in his younger years at Fulham, alongside an image of the player in a Birmingham shirt with the caption: “How it started vs how it’s going. It’s been some journey.”
Rival fans have since picked up on the tweet and took to the comment section to mock the post, largely poking fun at the fact Stansfield left a Premier League club for League One.
One fan wrote: “Premier League to League One. The lad is on fire.”
A second added: “Prem to League One. What a journey,” while another echoed: “From Premier League Fulham to League 1, what a journey.”
A fourth rival fan stated: “This doesn’t exactly paint him in a good light,” and a fifth added: “Premier League to League One. Incredible journey.”
While one Aston Villa supporter claimed: “He’s downgraded. Not much of a journey.”
Jay Stansfield withdraws from England U21 duty with injury
The League One season is ongoing but Birmingham are not in action this weekend because they have players on international duty.
One of those was Stansfield, who earned himself a call-up to England’s U21 side for their meetings with France and Portugal.
However, it has since been confirmed that the Birmingham ace has withdrawn from the camp because he’s carrying a knock.
The severity of the issue is not yet known, neither is his potential availability for the Blues’ next fixture, which comes on March 29 against Shrewsbury Town.
