The Championship fixture list for the 2025/26 campaign has been announced, with plenty of stories to be written across the division and the rest of the EFL, including for Charlton Athletic.
With the first game of the new season set to be played on Friday 8 August between Birmingham City and Ipswich Town, there is just over a month to go until we finally get back to the action after a summer break.
The transfer window does not shut until 1 September, and so there is still plenty of time for teams to make necessary improvements to their squads, and Charlton may have to work quicker than others.
EFL Analysis has taken a look at the newly released Championship fixtures, and the Addicks look to have the toughest start.

Charlton Athletic will be dreading their start to the new Championship campaign
Charlton gained around £20m from promotion to the second tier, and they will be wanting to make the most of that as they prepare for their opening game of the season at home to Watford, as Paulo Pezzolano prepares for his first job in England.

They then make the journey to Bristol City for their second match. The Robins were beaten by Sheffield United in the play-off semi-finals and Gerhard Struber will be looking to continue Liam Manning’s work at Ashton Gate.
In their third game, relegated Premier League club Leicester City visit The Valley, before the first of two London derbies await Charlton as they play QPR at Loftus Road. Nathan Jones’ side faces a visit from Millwall in matchday five after the Lions narrowly missed out on the top six in 2024/25.
Ruben Selles’ Sheffield United are the hosts for the Addicks’ sixth game of the new campaign, and it must be said that this is a very tricky start for the South-East London club and picking up points at home is vital to ensure that they are not in immediate danger.

The Addicks can surprise teams in 2025/26
While they perhaps do not have as easy a start as they would have wanted, getting thrown into the deep end against several clubs who will be targeting the play-offs is an excellent challenge for Charlton.
Jones has made them incredibly strong defensively, and the Addicks will be pleased that their manager rejected Cardiff City in favour of a stay at The Valley.
Charlton face Swansea City on the final day of the season and supporters will be hoping that they are not in need of a result if they do find themselves towards the bottom end of the table. Nevertheless, as we’ve seen countless times before, anything can happen in the Championship.
