A new season offers new opportunities for every club in the EFL, and fresh ambitions and dreams will be in the minds of those across the divisions.
2024/25 was an incredible year for English football, as Birmingham City smashed the League One points record, while Leeds United left it until the final day to claim the Championship title.
Tommy Watson made himself a Sunderland hero by scoring the winning goal in the play-off final to win promotion to the Premier League against Sheffield United, as Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon also ran out as winners at Wembley.
However, at the bottom of the leagues, it was a tough year for the likes of Matt Bloomfield who slammed his Luton Town team as they dropped into League One.
Meanwhile Carlisle United and Morecambe are now preparing for the National League and EFL Analysis have taken a look at the club who have been relegated the most times in EFL history.

Grimsby Town and Notts County share the title as the club with the most EFL relegations
17 – that’s the number of relegations that both Grimsby Town and Notts County have both experienced since they were established.

Grimsby also have the most promotions in EFL history to their name, having moved up to the division above 15 times in their history, with Notts County joint second with 14.
However, they have both suffered greatly over the years, with two relegations between 2015 and 2019 seeing the Magpies take the lead in this particular battle, before the Mariners levelled it up in 2021 as they finished bottom of League Two.
Both sides are on much more positive trends now, and they will both be hoping to be fighting for a play-off place in the fourth tier at the very least.

Arsenal have the greatest relegation record in England
While Grimsby and Notts County are in a league of their own with the most EFL relegations, you’ll be hard pressed to find a team with a greater record than Arsenal.

The Gunners have been relegated just once in their history, as they dropped down to the Second Division in 1913. They spent just two seasons in what is the Championship today, before they were voted back up to the top flight ahead of the 1919/20 campaign following the conclusion of the First World War.
Arsenal have been a top division side ever since, and are yet to have a taste of the EFL in its current format – with their over 100 year record perhaps unlikely to ever be matched.
