The Bellingham family have taken over football in the last few years, with Jude Bellingham quickly becoming one of the best players in the world while Jobe has shown his talents in the EFL.
Despite their promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs, Sunderland look likely to lose the 19-year-old Jobe Bellingham this summer, with Eintracht Frankfurt leading the way for his signature.
The teenager has been highly influential for the Black Cats this season, and Regis Le Bris has helped push the midfielder further, which unfortunately looks as though it will benefit the Bundesliga as he prepares to follow in his brother’s footsteps by moving to Germany.
EFL Analysis has taken a look at the Bellinghams and how their time in the EFL compares, and for one club, they must surely have some regrets.

Jobe Bellingham has surpassed Jude’s EFL legacy, but the next step will dictate his potential
It’s been five years since Jude left Birmingham City for an initial £25m, as per Sky Sports. He made the switch to Borussia Dortmund, a club that have previously been in talks with Jobe.

The current Real Madrid star burst onto the scene at St. Andrew’s at the age of just 16 years and 38 days old, becoming the youngest player to have ever played for Blues. His one season in the first team in the West Midlands was excellent, as he showed a level of maturity that was way beyond his years.
Nevertheless, it was clear to see that he was still very raw and a lot of his development came in the years after his departure.
Similarly, Jobe started out in the EFL with Birmingham. However, he did not quite have the opportunities in the first team that his brother had, and he departed for Sunderland in the summer of 2023, where he has made a name for himself.
There is plenty of pressure on the teenager, but he proved this season that he has the mental strength to carry that pressure forward. He played in his more natural eight position under Le Bris, and while he did not have as much success in front of goal, it was clear to see his improvements.

It can be said that Jobe will leave the EFL with more of a legacy than Jude, but what comes after that for the younger Bellingham will be where he is truly judged.

Birmingham City will wish that they could turn back time
Despite the riches that they gained from selling Jude in 2020, Birmingham have missed out on the best years of both of the midfielders and with Sunderland set to gain greatly from the sale of Jobe, Blues will wish that they could have held on to him for longer.
The Black Cats’ history of bringing through young players struck strongly with the soon-to-be Bundesliga player and it cannot be overstated how well the move has paid off for him.
While he is a few years behind his brother’s development, there are clear signs that Sunderland’s number seven is going to the top in the coming seasons and Birmingham will wish that they could turn back time on their decision to let him move to the Stadium of Light in 2023.
