Leeds United’s 6-0 win over Stoke City meant Daniel Farke experimented more with his substitutions on a day the Whites were promoted back to the Premier League.
Leeds took Stoke apart and won promotion in style but Daniel Farke was able to hand a 16-year-old Harry Gray his full professional debut after they defeated Mark Robins’ side, who were unbeaten in five.

That took Farke’s side to 94 points, meaning they are still on course to win 100 points between now and May 3. But, crucially, it gave Farke the freedom late on to bring on Gray for his professional debut in the process.
That meant Gray became the fifth member of the family to play for Leeds after Archie, Frank, Eddie, and dad Andy. It was a special day for him and for Leeds en route to automatic promotion later that day.

Harry Gray’s next steps as a Leeds United player
Leeds will be hoping Harry can emulate older brother Archie, but this is not the first time that the youngster has been recognised by Farke. The German included Gray as one of six youngsters on the trip to Germany last summer, and he played in pre-season friendlies.
That was not as impressive as when he made history on Easter Monday this year by becoming the third-youngest player ever to represent the club. As the LUFCDATA social media post below highlights, Harry is now the youngest member of the Gray family ever to feature in that famous white shirt.
Leeds’ resounding victory and the club being on the cusp of promotion, saw Gray dancing along to the tune of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘I Predict A Riot’. It was incredible to see and he joins a famous group of names in the Gray’s historic line.
Even before he made his four-minute debut, the Whites showed their appreciation by already creating a chant for the 16-year-old starlet. With the youngster coming on, the crowd broke out singing: ‘If Harry scores, we’re on the pitch.’
The sky is the limit for Gray and Eddie Gray shed a tear in the stands as Harry ran on. As Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis and TBR Football correspondent has highlighted, though, there are clubs circling the young forward already — including Tottenham Hotspur, Archie’s current club.
A boyhood fan, Gray was involved in the first-team picture during pre-season but was ruled out through injury early on in the 2024/25 campaign. Upon returning to competitive action with the U-21 side, the young striker has found the net on several occasions.
He debuted with Leeds in a non-competitive friendly against Harrogate Town in July 2024, and was part of the club’s pre-season squad after making waves through his progression at Leeds’ academy and he’s arguably viewed as a bigger talent than Archie.
Some incredibly talented youngsters have been been handed their debuts before their 17th birthday in recent years in the second tier, including Jobe and Jude Bellingham, as well as Chris Rigg, and Gray has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.
Leeds must now fend off any and all interest for his services and find a way to have a clear pathway into the first-team in the coming seasons, irrespective of whether they are a Premier League or Championship side.
A loan is the obvious next step, although it is not a step afforded to many 16-year-old’s. Being a Gray, and following in the footsteps of Archie, it is likely he is ready for more competitive action earlier than your average player.
That being said, a loan to League One or Two ought to be on the cards this summer, just to get used to the rigours of senior men’s football. Even a short loan initially would be beneficial to see if he can compete or if he needs more U-21 game time.
Talk of Spurs or regular starts in the Premier League is premature, but a loan stint and reassessment in January 2026 has to be the next step for someone with the world at his feet if Frank, Eddie, Archie, and the like are anything to go by.

The reaction to Harry Gray’s Leeds debut against Stoke
Gray is older than Aaron Lennon when Leeds’ youngest-ever player made his debut aged just 16 and 129 days back in August 2003. The teenage talent, and younger brother of Archie, was only in the squad because Dan James was unfit — but he got his chance.
The former Tottenham and Burnley winger reacted to Gray’s debut: “Nearly there nearly there big win!!! Also a massive congratulations to Harry Gray on making his debut today special special talent.”
Farke spoke via Leeds Live and said: “The day was made for it. But there are no gifts. I don’t like to praise a young lad too much too early. We liked what we saw on the training pitch. He has earned his position in this squad with hard work and good performance in training.”
He added the same sentiment regarding his development, too. He said: “Let’s be careful not to praise him too much, impressive for a 16-year-old boy. Proud day for him and his family. Important to give him space to develop.”
