Leeds United and Burnley could be promoted this week if results go their way, with both sides chasing down records in the process.
The automatic promotion run-in is upon us and plenty is still to be decided, albeit the top of the division looks likely to remain as it is without a major twist or turn from Sheffield United.

It is unlikely to go to the final day of the season without a win from the Blades at Turf Moor on Monday, which is a game that very much suits the side from West Yorkshire looking on.
In order to ‘get over the line’, a combination of quality and the required mental fortitude paramount. Although a Sheffield United collapse to Cardiff City could bring about promotion this Easter Weekend.

Leeds and Burnley have Championship points records in their sights
Burnley may have problems in the Premier League to be concerned about after their disappointment in 2023/24, but the focus right now is all about accruing the highest points total possible.
Burnley could set records for their defensive stability this term, but both Leeds and Burnley can get themselves among the teams with the highest-ever points totals in Championship history.
Leeds are also breaking and adding to records but none would be better than entering a second tier hall of fame list, with some of the Championship’s greatest ever teams and their points tallies within their sights.
| Team | Season | Points |
| Portsmouth | 2002/03 | 98 |
| Wolverhampton Wanderers | 2017/18 | 99 |
| Chelsea | 1988/89 | 99 |
| Man City | 2001/02 | 99 |
| Burnley | 2022/23 | 101 |
| Fulham | 2000/01 | 101 |
| Leicester City | 2013/14 | 102 |
| Newcastle United | 2009/10 | 102 |
| Sunderland | 1998/99 | 105 |
| Reading | 2005/06 | 106 |
Of course, they will require all 12 or at least 10 points to break into the list, but four wins from four would see either or both of them reach 100 points and be amongst Championship royalty.
Burnley have extra motivation, given that they can become the only side to appear twice in the top ten. Leeds, meanwhile, will want to make their mark and break into the top seven as a side on over 100.
A total of 100 points would also be the fifth-highest ever since the rebranding to the EFL Championship for the 2004/05 season; which would be an incredible achievement for either.
There are still problems to overcome before the season ends, and they will face new challenges in the top-flight. Roy Keane has already warned Leeds over what they need to do next term.

How Leeds United and Burnley can get to 100 points
The pathway to get to such a total is vastly different for each side, with Leeds evidently having the easier of things over the next four games, with two away games to bottom eight sides and their Elland Road form has been outstanding all season.
| Date(s) | Leeds United | Burnley |
| 18/04/2025 | Oxford United (17th) -The Kassam Stadium at 20:00 | Watford (11th) – Vicarage Road at 15:00 |
| 21/04/2025 | Stoke City (18th) – Elland Road 21/4 at 15:00 | Sheffield United (3rd) – Turf Moor at 17:30 |
| 26/04/2025 & 28/04/2025 | Bristol City (5th) – Elland Road 28/4 at 20:00 | QPR (15th) – Loftus Road 26/4 at 12:30 |
| 03/05/2025 | Plymouth Argyle (24th) – Home Park at 12:30 | Millwall (9th) – Turf Moor at 12:30 |
Burnley still have to play one of their toughest remaining fixtures when they host Sheffield United, but the Watford and QPR away games also appear to be difficult to navigate, as is a resurgent Millwall on final day.
That said, you wouldn’t put it past either winning the league, nor would you be that surprised if both got to 98+ to break into the top ten all-time points totals. It all starts with Oxford and Watford to tick off first and foremost, but there are no easy games in the Championship — as the cliche goes.
