Ahead of Leicester City’s clash with Birmingham City, they will be keen to notch a result with one English football record in the balance this season.

Leicester City face Birmingham City this weekend, in a game that could make a difference in the promotion picture by the end of the season.

It has been a mixed start for Leicester City, who, under Marti Cifuentes, have scraped wins against both Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, whilst also suffering defeat on their travels against Preston North End.

The start for Birmingham City has been brighter regarding performances, and the newly-promoted side have shown themselves to be a genuine contender for promotion this season.

Leicester City will want to notch a second successive Championship win as they welcome Birmingham City to the King Power Stadium, not just for their quest for promotion, but also to maintain one EFL record.

Leicester City are defending the top-flight promotion record from Birmingham City

Aside from the opportunity of returning to the Premier League, Leicester City will also hope to maintain their record of the most promotions to the top flight in England, having completed the feat on 13 occasions in the club’s history.

The Foxes were initially tied on 12 with Birmingham City until their promotion to the Premier League under Enzo Maresca in the 2023/24 Championship season.

Leicester City will be motivated to defend the honour against Birmingham City, who are showing signs of a side that will be in the mix in the latter stages of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Leicester City can prove doubters wrong with a win vs Birmingham City

After an unconvincing start to the 2025/26 season, many appear to be doubting Leicester City and their ability to respond to their relegation from the Premier League.

Leicester City have been quiet in the summer transfer window, and arguably have not sufficiently replaced the threat of Jamie Vardy, as well as Bilal El Khannouss, who is likely to depart from the King Power this summer.

The home tie against Birmingham City will be a true test to see exactly where Leicester City are in comparison to a fellow promotion candidate, and if they can find a victory against Chris Davies’ side, they would prove many wrong in doing so.
