Marti Cifuentes has one luxury as Leicester City manager despite transfer window closing

All in all, Leicester City will probably regard their transfer window as a successful one.

Marti Cifuentes wanted to trim his squad and the Foxes did exactly that as 16 headed for the exit.

Some were names that needed to be moved on while the likes of Bilal El Khannouss got their desired move away.

Four players joined in total, including three deadline day arrivals in Julian Carranza, Jordan James and Aaron Ramsey.

Cifuentes is seemingly happy with his squad, but he has one ace up his sleeve that he could unveil at any time.

Leicester City still have spaces in their squad to add new signings

While the transfer window is closed until January, that doesn’t necessarily mean that teams are finished recruiting.

All 24 Championship clubs are still able to sign free agents and register them due to not being under contract elsewhere.

Leicester still have four of those slots available as some of their first-team squad are under the age of 21, meaning they don’t need to be registered.

Not only does this highlight the work the Foxes have done to reduce the pool of players, it also gives Cifuentes an ace up his sleeve and the opportunity to strengthen where required.

What positions could Leicester do with strengthening?

On the whole, Leicester’s squad looks pretty well balanced, with options in every position.

There are plenty of free agents for Championship clubs to choose from and if you were to look in one area, it would still be the striker position.

Carranza signed from Feyenoord on loan but it looks like Cifuentes has lost faith in Patson Daka, despite a bid for the Zambia international being rejected on deadline day.

Only experienced names are in the market like Patrick Bamford and Vincent Aboubakar, but it feels like the Foxes will only utilise those spots if they desperately need them.
