Newly-promoted trio Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland are all interested in signing Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga this summer.

As the summer transfer window continues, ahead of the short break for the Club World Cup, transfer business has been rife across the English Football Leagues in preparation for the 2025/26 season.

Despite finishing just shy of the play-off places under Alex Neil, it appears that the early business for Millwall is centred on retaining some of their top talents, with no new signings made at The Den as of yet.

Premier League Wolves have been interested in prolific forward Mihailo Ivanovic, after his impressive 12-goal campaign, but EFL Analysis exclusively revealed they must “double the money” to sign Ivanovic from Millwall.

Another integral member of Neil’s Lions squad who has received Premier League interest already this summer, is defender Japhet Tanganga.

Maksym Talovierov would be the perfect Japhet Tanganga replacement at Millwall

As well as Ivanovic, Wolves were tracking Tanganga last season, but the former Spurs star stayed at The Den, and ended the Championship campaign with 40 appearances to his name.

After impressing at the heart of Millwall’s defence amid their push for a play-off place, Sunderland, Burnley and Leeds United are all interested in Tanganga, given his reported release clause sits just under £2 million.

Tanganga has made clear his ambition to play in the Premier League again, as he said via South London Press in November: “It’s definitely an ambition to get to the Premier League and there’s nothing wrong with ambition.”

As such, the 26-year-old could be set to depart Millwall this summer, but the Lions have the perfect potential replacement waiting in League One, at recently-relegated Plymouth Argyle.

Enter Maksym Talovierov, who was one of the shining lights in Argyle’s ill-fated campaign, following his mid-season move from LASK.

Under Miron Muslic, who has been slammed by Argyle chairman Simon Hallett over his Schalke switch, the dominant Ukrainian made 13 appearances in all competitions.

The pinnacle of the centre-back’s performances in a green jersey came in his FA Cup heroics, battling like his life depended on it to keep Liverpool at bay, before scoring a towering header in the ensuing defeat at Manchester City.

Departed Argyle boss Muslic has already told Millwall why Talovierov would be an impressive signing for Millwall, who fits their hard-to-beat mould perfectly.

Miron Muslic has already told Millwall why they should sign Maksym Talovierov

The colossal central defender has made 11 league appearances since his £1.7 million arrival in January, with his physical prowess making the dominant defender an excellent operator at second tier level.

Via the BBC, after Argyle’s defeat at Man City, Muslic said of Talovierov: “His goal was the summary of his performance and his character,

“A straight guy, big heart, big passion, loves to defend, loves to give his all, he just fits perfectly to the type of player and character I was looking for.

“He played an excellent game defensively and also a beautiful header. It is a Premier League goal and I think he has the potential for this.”

His former boss Muslic believes he has the potential to become a Premier League player, and for all those who have witnessed Talovierov this term, he has far too much to offer to be playing in the third tier in the upcoming campaign.

Muslic’s appraisal of the Ukrainian stopper would also be music to the ears of Millwall supporters as Talovierov would suit the footballing philosophy of Millwall to a tee.

The hole in the heart of the Lions’ defence left by Tanganga’s absence would be hard to fill, but the 6’5″ powerhouse Talovierov would certainly be able to fill the void, if Millwall can capitalise on Argyle’s relegation and secure his signature this summer.
