Wrexham are making big moves in their pursuit of Premier League promotion ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

Wrexham made history with their promotion from League One last season, and are hoping to follow suit in the upcoming Championship campaign.

The Red Dragons finished runners-up in the third tier last season with 92 points, 29 points behind record-breakers Birmingham City.

As the summer transfer window continues, Wrexham have been linked with several high-profile transfer moves, recently with their pursuit of Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

Another has now emerged, regarding Wrexham’s interest in Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis.

Wrexham in pursuit of Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis

Birmingham and Wrexham have been battling for Danny Ings, as they look to add proven Championship quality to their ranks, and mount a serious promotion charge.

Aside from Ings, Wrexham hold interest in Aaron Cresswell, after his contract at West Ham expired following the end of the season.

As the Wrexham Insider revealed, the Red Dragons are interested in bringing in Blackburn captain Travis, who is valued at around the £3 million mark.

27-year-old Travis featured 38 times in the Championship last season, scoring twice from defensive midfield, as Valerien Ismael’s side finished just outside of the play-off places.

Wrexham’s interest in Travis comes after the midfielder, who is entering the final 12 months of his current Rovers contract, made an honest admission about his footballing future towards the end of last season.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “No, I haven’t (held contract talks).

“I would like to stay. I’ve been here most of my footballing career. But yeah, like I said, no one’s said anything to me.

“That’s football. It is what it is. I think football is football and if it’s not here, it’ll be elsewhere but I’m not focused on that.”

If Wrexham can convince Travis to depart Rovers for The Racecourse, it would be an immense statement of intent from the Red Dragons hierarchy ahead of the 25/26 season.

Signing of Lewis Travis would be a massive coup for Wrexham

Former Liverpool CEO, and Wrexham advisor, Peter Moore believes the summer window will be “interesting” for the club ahead of next season.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has revealed Wrexham’s transfer policy is involved with targeting loans from top flight clubs, and trying to attract a “higher calibre of player” than they’d been able to in League One.

Enter Rovers skipper Travis, who would be an impressive coup for the Red Dragons, given his quality and experience in the Championship.

Rovers academy prospect Travis has featured 263 times for Blackburn in his nine years at the club, with 242 of those appearances coming in the second tier.

On the field, Travis’ capabilities are clear, after his impressive campaign in which he won 195 duels, won 63 tackles, and enjoyed an 85% passing accuracy.

However, it is his presence around the dressing room that would also be a benefit to Wrexham. Ex-Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson told Rovers.co.uk of Travis: “He’s a great boy, he’s a warrior, a soldier who takes responsibility for the team.

“He’s a team player, and you always need that. He’s a battler, and that’s why I call him a soldier in that sense.

“He never thinks about himself, he thinks about the togetherness, the spirit, and ensures everyone is pushing in the same direction for the club.”

Signing a player of Travis’ ability and ilk would send a strong warning to Wrexham’s 25/26 second tier opponents.
