Paul Warne must pursue ambitious Wrexham signing this summer, it would guarantee MK Dons promotion

MK Dons are in the midst of a busy summer, and Paul Warne is working quickly to get his team ready for a fight at the top of League Two in 2025/26.

Milton Keynes are one of the favourites for the title next season after they started their transfer window by signing Nathaniel Mendez-Laing from Derby County on a free.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, a player who has also spent time with the Rams, was next through the door while Warne is keen on reuniting with David McGoldrick after he rejected a new contract at Notts County.

However, there is one more experienced EFL star who MK Dons must sign ahead of their first game of the campaign, and it would demonstrate the ambition of their owners this summer.

MK Dons must make an ambitious move for Paul Mullin

Paul Mullin looks likely to leave Wrexham this summer, and while he will be looking at a move to League One, Warne’s project at Stadium MK will be severely enticing.

The ex-Rams manager loves players with experience, and Warne is trying to replicate a transfer tactic that he used at Derby with MK Dons.

Gethin Jones recently signed for the Buckinghamshire outfit, and Mullin would be a perfect fit alongside McGoldrick up front, should they complete that deal.

The 30-year-old struggled to recover from injury following surgery on his back last summer which helped with a long-term hamstring problem and sides in League One may see the ex-Cambridge United striker as a risky and expensive signing.

Paul Mullin has a history of scoring goals in League Two

After finding it tough in the third tier in 2024/25, returning to a division that he has excelled in recently could be the perfect move.

A fresh start after an incredible few years with Wrexham would allow Mullin to achieve his personal goals, and he has a knack of finding the back of the net in League Two.

93 goals in 274 appearances in the fourth tier is proof of how clinical he can be in that league, with 56 of those coming in his last two visits.

A full pre-season is exactly what Mullin needs, but Warne has made MK Dons one of the strongest sides in League Two already and adding a fourth promotion in four years would be the perfect way for Wrexham’s number 10 to get back to his very best.
