The transfer window is just one day away from re-opening, and Wrexham are already getting ready to start their business up once again.
It was a relatively quiet first 10 days of the summer window for the Red Dragons, with the departure of Sam Dalby to Bolton Wanderers the only notable moment so far.
However, with pre-season just a matter of weeks away, Phil Parkinson will be looking for incomings quickly with his team preparing for life in the second tier following back-to-back-to-back promotion at the Racecourse Ground.
Experience has been the key area that Wrexham are targeting, with interest in Tom Cairney at the start of the window, while Leeds United race them to Aaron Cresswell. Yet there are two new names on the shortlist in Wales, and if they are able to pull either signing off, it is a huge statement of intent.
Wrexham look to sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan and free agent Stuart Armstrong
It was reported on Saturday evening by The Sun that the Red Dragons are in pursuit of two familiar names to the EFL – Barry Bannan and Stuart Armstrong.

The latter is set to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer at the end of his contract, while Bannan has been working on a new deal at Hillsborough.
However, Wrexham are looking to add to the Owls’ financial woes and hijack any deal for their captain by bringing him to the Racecourse Ground in what would be a highly ambitious move.
There is ‘no future’ for Sheffield Wednesday under Dejphon Chansiri according to Chris Turner, a former manager of the South Yorkshire outfit, and Parkinson is looking to capitalise on that by signing the club’s most influential player over the course of the last decade.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are looking to make big strides in the Championship
At 35, Bannan is much closer to the end of his career than the very start. But, with the experience that he possesses in the Championship, there is perhaps no better signing that Phil Parkinson can make this summer.
Lewis Travis is also on Wrexham’s radar, and by targeting other clubs’ captains, they are showing that they are willing to upset the establishment ahead of their first season in the second tier since 1982.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are extremely ambitious owners, and they are not willing to just make up the numbers in the Championship in 2025/26. Improvements are needed across the squad, and Bannan only adds a different level of quality.
There will be a desire to bring down the average age of the squad at the Racecourse Ground eventually, but bringing in players who know the division and know how to win is vital.
