Burnley’s relentless charge towards promotion was completed on Monday with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.
A brace from Josh Brownhill sparked scenes of jubilation at Turf Moor, with Scott Parker describing the promotion with Burnley as ‘special’ while labelling it as his favourite so far.
Remarkably, the Clarets are now unbeaten since November, and will be hunting down the Championship title in the remaining two matches.
But, once the celebrations blow over and reality sinks in, so will the prospect of the challenge ahead of them as staying in the Premier League is harder than it’s ever been.
Joe Hart predicts Burnley and Leeds United will thrive, as long as they don’t follow the blueprint of the sides that have come down. Meanwhile, Parker’s previous comments after winning promotion suggest an area where they must get it right.

Scott Parker once slammed Bournemouth for under equipping him in the Premier League
Parker has now won three promotions to the Premier League, with his previous two coming at Fulham and Bournemouth.
In the 2021/22 campaign, Bournemouth came second in the Championship, ironically behind the Cottagers, to seal their return to the top-flight.
| Bournemouth’s 2022 summer signings | Fees paid |
| Marcus Tavernier | £12m |
| Marcos Senesi | £10.5m |
| Joe Rothwell | Free |
| Neto | Free |
| Ryan Fredericks | Free |
The Cherries only spent £22 million on new players in the summer, only shelling out fees for Marcus Tavernier and Marcos Senesi, while the rest were signed on a free transfer.
Unsurprisingly, Parker’s men struggled in the opening stages of the campaign and following the 9-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in August 2022, the Englishman was sacked.
It was a decision that left a bitter taste in Parker’s mouth, who slammed the board for under-equipping him for a Premier League campaign before being axed.
“I feel sorry for the fans, I feel sorry for the players, to be honest with you, because at the moment we are just a bit underequipped at this level from where we have come from,” he said.
“It doesn’t surprise me. This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big.
“At times we couldn’t bear it, the intensity. We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It’s a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.
“I’m gutted for the players. It’s my job and it will be the defining of us as a group of how we bounce back from this.”

Burnley must avoid the same mistake and back Parker
Parker’s Premier League record is grim, as he’s never kept a side in the top-flight following promotion, and Burnley fans will fear a similar outcome could follow.
However, there is a solid foundation for the manager to build from as Burnley’s record-breaking defence has the potential to step up to a higher level.
On the flip side, Burnley have only scored 61 goals in 44 matches, and this suggests they could struggle to find the net in the Premier League.
Ultimately, Parker must be backed with funds in the summer transfer window, and his priority has to be quality attacking additions, otherwise, they could face a similar fate to the likes of Southampton and Leicester City.
