Sky Sports pundit praises Scott Parker for ‘unbelievable achievement’ as Burnley boss seals impressive promotion record

Burnley will spend the night celebrating promotion out of the Championship after beating Sheffield United, but Scott Parker has secured his own legacy as a manager in the process.

It has been a relentless march to promotion for Burnley, who started the season strong and never looked back under the guidance of Scott Parker.

The Clarets are now unbeaten since November, and will be hunting down the Championship title after securing a top-two finish already.

Regardless of whether they win the title or not, though that is absolutely Parker’s objective at this point, he and the players have been more than deserving of promotion this season, and they deserve all the praise they get from here on out.

Michael Brown lauds Scott Parker’s impact at Burnley

Burnley may have been branded boring, a claim Josh Brownhill refutes, but the top and bottom of it is that Parker has led the team very efficiently to success this season.

Commending the Burnley boss on that achievement, Michael Brown discussed the great work Parker has done this season and hailed the changes he made since arriving at Turf Moor.

Brown told Sky Sports: “He has that belief and he brought a calmness to the training ground. He has been around it and I think the club took it as a different style.

“For him to come in and find a way, he kept it basic at first to make sure they were hard to beat. People will criticise for being boring, but that is ridiculous.

“At times, they got better and better towards the end of the season, then they came out with flair. Players stepped up. To do it, I think it is an unbelievable achievement.”

He’s right, too. Burnley have become a frightening proposition since the turn of the year in particular, adding much more attacking play to their very solid defensive foundation.

What Scott Parker had to say about his incredible promotion record

That’s now three promotions from the Championship, with three different clubs for Scott Parker, which is quite extraordinary, really.

Say what you will about him — maybe his style of play is a bit boring, and maybe he is a bit out of his depth in the Premier League — but he certainly knows how to succeed in the second tier.

Discussing his achievements with Sky Sports, Parker said: “This one feels better! It feels special. Bumps in the road as a manager but it is not about me.

“Losing my job at Bournemouth and going to [Club] Brugge and losing my job. I took a year out and knew there was a big challenge here.

“I am relieved. The spotlight shines on players and myself but the sacrifice families make, they deserve these moments.”

With two games to go, Burnley still need to chase down Leeds at the top of the table, and they’ll have one eye on breaking the top ten for the Championship record points tally, too.

After that, all eyes will be on Parker and Burnley to see if they can survive in the Premier League this time, or whether the jump will be too much once more.
