Bristol City are closing in on their replacement for Liam Manning as their new manager.
Gerhard Struber is set to be confirmed by Bristol City imminently after the Robins missed out on Rob Edwards, who will become Middlesbrough’s new manager.
Struber is an ambitious character, as Barnsley found out in 2020, and the Austrian will be hoping to replicate the Robins’ successful 2024/25 season in which they reached the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years.
But, with Manning heading to Norwich City and some questions still yet to be answered, there’s one burning issue that needs to be sorted by Struber straightaway.

Gerhard Struber must decide on Nahki Wells’ future
Nahki Wells was an important member of Bristol City’s side last season as he reached double figures.
The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and EFL Analysis revealed Wells may not be in the Robins’ plans.
BBC Sport reported that Wells was in talks with the club’s chiefs in May and no solution has been reached as of yet.
However, now that Struber is on his way to Ashton Gate, those plans may change and a U-turn on any possible exit may be authorised.
One striker who could replace Nahki Wells at Bristol City
If Wells does end up leaving, Struber will need to look for a new striker to help compete with the current options at the club.
Thankfully, the incoming Bristol City manager has managed in a series of leagues and his most recent venture in 2. Bundesliga introduced him to Rayan Philippe.
The 24-year-old Eintracht Braunschweig is a younger option in comparison to Wells but was a proven goal scorer in the German second tier after finding the back of the net 14, however, they would have to move quickly to hijack Hamburg’s deal, where the final details still need to go through.
