It’s all change for Bristol City this summer, with a new manager on the way, and we can now reveal what the future holds for Nahki Wells, too.
An impressive showing from the Robins in 2025/26 saw Liam Manning guide the club to a top-six finish and a run at the Championship play-offs.
Unfortunately, that ended disastrously for Bristol City who succumbed to a massive 6-0 aggregate defeat to Sheffield United in the semi-finals.
Manning had done enough to catch the eye, though, with Norwich City swooping to make him their new manager.
Now, Bristol City could hire Rob Edwards to replace him. But, one player who may not be a part of the plans under the new manager is Nahki Wells.

Nahki Wells likely to leave Bristol City behind
We already revealed this week that captain Jason Knight has lots of interest from the Premier League. Going the other way in the Football League ladder, though, could be veteran striker Nahki Wells.
Discussing the 35-year-old’s future with our transfer expert Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis was told: “I don’t really think he’s got a future there from the little bits I’m hearing. He’s not a young player now and I don’t think he’s in Bristol City’s plans. That’s my understanding of it.
“I think there’s quite a few in League One lately that like him. I’ve heard Bradford would want him back, and I’ve heard a few teams, to be fair. One thing is, I think he’s going to have to drop out the Championship. I think he moves on now.”
A return to Bradford City could well be beneficial for all parties, with the newly-promoted side looking to make an impact on their return to the third tier and their former striker looking likely to need a new club.

Nahki Wells’ long career is coming to an end
It would probably be a bit unfair to call Nahki Wells a journeyman, but he’s certainly had a long and varied career throughout the EFL.
Before becoming Bristol City’s talismanic striker since joining in 2020, Wells spent time on loan at QPR but never really managed to break into the first team at Burnley.
| Years | Team | Apps | Goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | Carlisle United | 3 | 0 |
| 2011–2014 | Bradford City | 91 | 42 |
| 2014–2017 | Huddersfield Town | 144 | 45 |
| 2017–2020 | Burnley | 10 | 0 |
| 2018–2019 | Queens Park Rangers | 66 | 20 |
| 2020– | Bristol City | 214 | 46 |
Prior to that, he’s turned out for Huddersfield Town, Bradford, and Carlisle United, as well as spells with Non-League outfit Eccleshill United, and two teams from his native Bermuda; the Bermuda Hoggers and Dandy Town Hornets.
Indeed, it’s impressive the manner in which Wells has forged a career for himself and climbed the footballing ladder, with 40+ goals for Bradford, Huddersfield, and now Bristol City, too.
