Bristol City are entering the unknown next season, and without Liam Manning, there will be question marks over their potential in reaching the same heights as they did in 2024/25.
Rob Edwards is a target for the Robins following Manning’s move to Norwich City, and there is a desperate need to bring in a new manager quickly as the weeks tick down to pre-season.
Michael Carrick was also being considered by Bristol City, as he looks for a quick-fire return to football management following his sacking at Middlesbrough. Nevertheless, there is a new issue for whoever takes charge at Ashton Gate.
Keeping hold of players will be tough for the Robins this summer, and Manning may eye up reunions with some of his former stars while Jason Knight faces an uncertain transfer window after an excellent 2024/25 campaign.

Jason Knight has plenty of Premier League interest
The Bristol City captain was superb last season, and it will come as no surprise to see that he is gaining interest from clubs in the Premier League.

EFL Analysis can now reveal the clubs who are targeting the Republic of Ireland midfielder, and Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey told us: “He has got Premier League interest. He’s a very good player. I’ve heard Bournemouth, Fulham, and Everton, and I’ve heard he is on the radar of Leeds United, too. He’s got a lot of interest and there is a chance he goes.
“It just depends on Bristol City’s demands. I don’t think he’s desperate to leave because he’s had a very good season with them, but let’s see what they do and what they ask for. I wouldn’t be surprised if Liam Manning quite fancies him at Norwich, but he’d be very expensive for another Championship team to take.
“A brilliant player and I think there’s a decent chance he ends up at a Premier League club, but we’re still in early June and teams are sorting things out. He’s not going to be an imminent move. I don’t think he’s top of Everton’s list if I’m being honest. I do know there’s others who they like ahead of him.”
Losing Jason Knight would be tough for Bristol City
Knight played every single minute of the Robins’ Championship campaign, although he was forced to endure Bristol City’s 6-0 aggregate defeat to Sheffield United in the play-offs.
Nevertheless, at 24, the midfielder is only going to improve as the years go by and he has a wonderful connection with Max Bird already after coming through Derby County’s academy with him.
| Appearances (starts) | 46 (46) |
| Minutes played | 4140 |
| Goals (assists) | 3 (5) |
| Pass accuracy | 82.9% |
| Shots (on target) | 49 (9) |
| Tackle success | 57.7% |
| Duel success | 58.8% |
| Interceptions | 39 |
It is no surprise to see Premier League clubs interested in Knight, and losing him will be difficult for Bristol City and finding a replacement would take longer than just one summer to sort.
A Championship move would be surprising at this moment in time, and he will surely find himself in the top flight in the future.
