Wrexham are plotting an ambitious move for Leicester City defender Conor Coady amid his stalled move to Rangers.

Wrexham are on a mission for Premier League promotion this season, and the Red Dragons’ summer transfer window business has put that feat firmly in their sights.

So far this summer, Phil Parkinson has added some stellar recruits to his squad, which finished runners-up in League One beyond Birmingham City last term.

Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle before Josh Windass joined after his Sheffield Wednesday exit.

The Red Dragons smashed their transfer record to sign Liberato Cacace, then surpassed that again with the signing of Lewis O’Brien, and could break it for a third time this summer as Wrexham target Ipswich Town’s Nathan Broadhead in a £7m deal.

Now, Wrexham are plotting yet another ambitious move, this time for a former Premier League captain.

Wrexham plot move for Leicester City captain Conor Coady

With the 2025/26 Championship campaign less than two weeks away, and the September 1 transfer window deadline not too far in the future, the transfer window has stepped up another for the Welsh giants.

Wrexham are in talks with Kieffer Moore over a deal for the Sheffield United and Welsh international striker, and are now poised to target another former Premier League figure.

The Red Dragons are now reportedly plotting an ambitious move for Leicester City captain Conor Coady.

Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse revealed on X: Wrexham move for Conor Coady. Leicester defender seen as ideal man to drive their bid for Premier League football in two years.”

32-year-old Coady featured 22 times for the Foxes last season in their relegation to the Championship in his second season at Leicester.

Coady was in talks to sign for Rangers earlier this summer to link up with former Southampton manager Russell Martin at Ibrox.

However, the move has not materialised, despite Coady being ‘desperate’ to leave Leicester for Rangers.

Within Coady’s 14-year career, the majority of his games came for Wolverhampton Wanderers during their resurgence to the Premier League.

Former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has already told Parkinson and Wrexham why Coady would be an excellent addition.

Wrexham have already been told why they should sign Conor Coady

Englishman Coady played 317 of his 534 club career games for Wolves between 2015 and 2022, cementing himself as a Molineux legend for his resolute defensive displays.

Wolves won promotion from the Championship to the top flight in 2018, in a season in which Coady featured in all but one of Wolves’ second tier clashes.

Coady’s former Wolves boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, hailed Coady in May 2019, after the central defender played every minute of every game to see Wolves finish in an impressive seventh place.

Santo told the Shropshire Star: “It’s fantastic. He’s a player that is available for all of the training sessions and all of the games. I’m very proud that he did it.

“I think he has shown as a captain that he has led by example, so I’m very proud.”

Coady’s decade-plus experience in English football and his innate leadership abilities would be the perfect accompaniment to Parkinson’s Wrexham squad ahead of their Championship foray.

Bringing the former Everton youngster to the Racecourse would be another transfer coup, in a long list of impressive signings for the Red Dragons this summer.
