Sheffield Wednesday could still lose Barry Bannan this summer, and two Championship clubs could pounce on the Owls’ woes if Dejphon Chansiri cannot offer him a contract.

Sheffield Wednesday have undergone a turgid summer full of uncertainty for the players, staff, and supporters.

With just over a week until the 2025/26 Championship season kicks off, Sheffield Wednesday have several unresolved concerns, many of which track back to the door of unpopular owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday players have been notified to expect a delay in their wages for the third successive month, whilst first-team players are continuously sold. It has got to the point where the Owls have an unrecognisable first-team squad.

Many Sheffield Wednesday supporters have hit their breaking point regarding the situation, but the latest update regarding the future of Barry Bannan may just tip them over the edge.

Barry Bannan could leave Sheffield Wednesday for Middlesbrough or Millwall as Owls future remains uncertain

As reported by The Star, the continuous uncertainty regarding Barry Bannan’s future at Sheffield Wednesday has sparked interest from Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Millwall, with both clubs ‘considering making a move’.

Bannan is yet to be offered a new deal in S6 as financial woes continue to hinder Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The Sheffield Wednesday captain is keen to stay at Hillsborough for the foreseeable future, underlining his true love for the club; however, his hand may be forced elsewhere if a contract is not handed to him by the time the Championship campaign gets underway.

Barry Bannan saga shows the sad indictment of Sheffield Wednesday’s situation

Throughout the summer, we have seen several concerns raised at Sheffield Wednesday, to the point where the club has become hollow.

There is nobody from the top who is willing to take responsibility for the issues flooding Sheffield Wednesday at this moment in time, whether it is the state of the North Stand at Hillsborough, or the future of players and staff.

Barry Bannan is all that remains of the spine at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and if he were to move on from the club, many supporters will turn. The Scotsman has shown incredible loyalty to stick by the club for a decade, especially during the current uncertainty.

Supporters would not begrudge Bannan for taking a move to a fellow Championship club in this situation, and the fact that he is being forced into such a decision shows the sad reality of the situation at the club.
