Birmingham City are making radical changes to their squad as they prepare for life in the Championship.
Tommy Doyle rejected Premier League clubs in favour of Blues, with the ex-Wolves midfielder already being called the ‘signing of the summer’.
Meanwhile, Kyogo Furuhashi has moved to St. Andrew’s and their ambition cannot be doubted as Chris Davies looks for back-to-back promotions following a record-breaking League One campaign.
However, as Huddersfield Town show interest in Marc Leonard, another ace from last season, Alfie May, has already departed for the Terriers and supporters are heartbroken.
Birmingham City fans react as Alfie May joins Huddersfield Town
May only joined Blues last summer, but he has now moved club for the third time in three years, with the John Smith’s Stadium his new home.

At 32, Davies perhaps sees now as the perfect time to lose the striker but Birmingham fans are not totally happy with the decision as the striker was well-liked.
While a second supporter wrote: “All the best @alfiemay – thanks for helping getting us up last season. You’ll do the same up there I’m sure next season & you’ll be nearer your family too. #KRO Don’t be a stranger as you will always be welcome & have a place in Bluenoses hearts.”
Another put: “Devastated. Proper lad is Alfie, good luck with the rest of your career, would have definitely made an impact this season.”
As a fifth said: “Great character. Sorry you don’t get to experience the Championship this season Alfie, but I wish you every success in doing what you did with us last season and repeating it with Huddersfield. Top lad.”
However one Birmingham fan saw it as the only option: “All parties won in my opinion, we are building a bigger and better squad. May did his duties in League One and I’ll always be grateful for that. Good luck for the future Alfie, you’ll smash it. KRO.”

Chris Davies’ intentions are clear this summer
While May could have offered something in the Championship, Birmingham are perhaps looking even further ahead than that.
The striker has never played above League One before, and that lack of certainty over where he could do it in the second tier may have played a part in Blues’ decision to let him leave.
Equally, the idea of playing consistent football in a division that he knows so well would have appealed to May.
This is a move that suits Huddersfield, Birmingham and the player himself. If he gets firing, then there is no doubt that the Terriers will be challenging for the title and the Kent-born forward may just have another promotion to add to his tally.
