Birmingham City ‘hopeful’ shock move for Sheffield United veteran can be completed before deadline

Birmingham City have been busy throughout the transfer deadline day and look to be continuing their work past 7pm, when the market had shut, to complete one final deal by luring a veteran from a Championship rival.

There was an understanding in the club that there needed to be additions to Chris Davies’ side if they wanted to compete at the top of the Championship for promotion this season.

The Blues have managed to lure Sunderland star Patrick Roberts to the club, and there is a degree of excitement around the deal to get the creative winger in at Birmingham City.

While this latest move may not fill fans with the same excitement as Patrick Roberts, it will be just as important, if not more so, to bring this player to Birmingham for their promotion chances.

Birmingham City chase Sheffield United’s Jack Robinson

It has been reported by Pete O’Rourke on social media that Birmingham City will look to complete the signing of Jack Robinson following the closure of the transfer market.

This practice is allowed as long as the transfer deal sheet has been submitted so the negotiations and medical can be completed; however, it is not always guaranteed that a transfer will occur.

Birmingham City remain hopeful of adding Robinson to their ranks as they look to complete it, with the player lining up in blue instead of the red and white he has been used to for the previous few seasons.

A deal for Watford to sign Robinson earlier on deadline day collapsed as the Hornets opted to sign Formose Mendy.

While nothing on transfer deadline day is a formality, this deal seems to be incredibly likely to get done.

The reason behind this is the desire for the player to leave Sheffield United and the Blades not wanting to lose him on a free transfer next summer, as he only has one year left on his contract.

Ruben Selles also confirmed earlier in the summer that the Blades would not allow Robinson to leave the club until they had signed replacements; however, they have since recruited Ben Godfrey and Japhet Tanganga from Millwall.
