Blackburn Rovers got off the mark in the Championship on Saturday afternoon with an excellent 3-0 win over Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
After losing both of their first two games of the season, Valerien Ismael needed a response in East Yorkshire. He got exactly that from his players as Ryan Hedges opened the scoring with a superb chipped effort in the first 18 minutes.
Yuki Ohashi made it 2-0 just after the break, before captain Todd Cantwell made it three just moments later to hand Rovers a much-needed three points.
However, this summer has not exactly gone to plan for Blackburn, with a number of key stars departing. Lewis Travis is on his way to Derby County, while the likes of Tyrhys Dolan, Danny Batth and Andreas Weimann all left for free. Now, an out-of-favour player could be on his way out of Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers midfielder John Buckley liked by Saudi Arabian club Al-Kholood
John Buckley has struggled for minutes since Ismael came to Rovers, and his departure is one that perhaps needs to happen for all parties.

Alan Nixon has reported that the midfielder could be on his way out of Blackburn before deadline day, with Saudi Arabian club Al-Kholood interested – a side currently managed by former Oxford United boss Des Buckingham.
Buckley is yet to make the squad for Rovers this season, and played just 23 times in the Championship in 2024/25, with just three of those coming under Ismael.
Nixon said: “Saudi side Al Kholood are keen to sign Blackburn midfielder John Buckley in a surprise deal.
“Buckley is available after being left out of the side for an extended spell and a fee of around £1 million plus extras is being discussed.”

John Eustace was a huge fan of John Buckley during his time at Ewood Park
It’s been a frustrating few months for the 25-year-old, and Eustace’s departure to Derby in February coincided with Buckley losing his place in the team at Ewood Park.
Getting regular game time will be a huge desire for Buckley, and with the financial incentives that Saudi Arabia brings, a move away from England might appeal to him.

Nevertheless, the midfielder was well liked by Eustace, and back in December he explained how much he wanted to keep him at the club in the January transfer window.
The current Rams boss said (via: Lancashire Telegraph):”I think John is a fantastic player and he’s been a massive help for the squad, he loves the football club.
“He really cares and he has been unfortunate that the two lads in there have done so well since we came back. John will get his minutes and play a vital role between now and the end of the season.”
