The most unpredictable league in the world continued to shock us all with some massive results this weekend, so here’s a handy guide to what’s going on in the Championship today.

We’re now three weeks into the new Championship campaign, and it’s safe to say that no one would have guessed what the table looks like right now.

As things stand, we have seven teams still searching for their first win of the season, and two still looking to get their first point on the board. Meanwhile, two teams have 100% records, and a further four are still yet to taste defeat.

The action kicked off on Friday night with Derby County earning a draw against Bristol City, before three lunchtime games on Saturday, and eight 3pm kick-offs later on. Here are all the stories as they happened in our Championship round-up for the weekend.

Championship round-up: Stoke City and Middlesbrough maintain 100% records

Before the season began, if you read our Championship preview for 2025/26, you’d have seen that we weren’t feeling too positive about Stoke City or Middlesbrough’s chances.

However, after three weeks, they are the only two teams in the league to have 100% records, with three wins from three games for Mark Robins and Rob Edwards.

The Potters recorded a very impressive 2-1 away win at promotion favourites Southampton to stay top of the table, while Middlesbrough bagged an equally impressive and important away result at Norwich City.

Robins has loved Sorba Thomas’ impact so far, and the new signing was on the scoresheet again for Stoke to take his tally to five goal contributions this season.

Now, the question is, can these two teams maintain this run of form or will they get found out and drop back down to the lower placings we expected before the season?

Coventry City secure record-breaking win vs QPR

Elsewhere, the big story of the weekend was Coventry City and their immense 7-1 win over QPR.

On a weekend where Coventry secured ownership of their stadium for the first time in 20 years, Frank Lampard’s players delivered the ultimate celebration.

The Sky Blues were leading 5-0 at half-time and didn’t stop there. That’s the biggest league win in the club’s history, and further proof that Coventry will be incredibly strong this season.

Meanwhile, Julien Stephan is now in a precarious position with no wins in his first four games at QPR. One would assume he doesn’t have too much time to turn things around, even this early on in his tenure.

Sheffield United are rock bottom in the Championship

One of the biggest surprises this season, for all the wrong reasons, has been Sheffield United. With Chris Wilder out and Ruben Selles coming in, it was always likely there’d be teething problems at Bramall Lane, but no one expected the Blades to be rock bottom of the league table after three games and three defeats.

A 1-0 win for Millwall helped Alex Neil make history as the first Lions boss in 30 years to win the first three away games in a season.

However, the crowd at Bramall Lane were not happy with what they saw, and the pressure is really on Selles already.

Interestingly, Japhet Tanganga was taunted by the Millwall fans. A move to Sheffield United looms for the defender, but he may be having second thoughts after what he saw in S2 this weekend.

Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday fans unite

Prior to this game at the Racecourse Ground, all eyes were on Sheffield Wednesday’s planned protests. Even better, Wrexham backed the Owls with Rob McElhenney helping draw attention to their plight.

The game was a cracker, too. Wrexham were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to a double from new signing Kieffer Moore. However, a resilient Sheffield Wednesday side levelled things up by the end to claim a crucial point.

Clearly, Sheffield Wednesday will not go down without a fight. The players were brilliant, the Owls fans were ‘top class’, and Henrik Pedersen now has a foundation to build on as Wednesday climb out of the bottom three.

It’s early days, but there is hope around the Hillsborough outfit. Off the pitch, there’s even a chance that Dejphon Chansiri could be forced to sell the club as new football governance regulators prepare to step in.

Championship round-up: Ipswich lose, Leicester prevail, Birmingham march on

We’ll finish our reflection on the Championship today with a quick look at some of the other interesting results and stories.

The recently relegated sides are struggling. Ipswich Town lost again to keep up a miserable record of one win in 22 games. Southampton lost to Stoke, as we mentioned. But, Leicester City did manage to snatch a 1-0 win away at Charlton thanks to a stunning Abdul Fatawu goal.

Meanwhile, it’s going under the radar a little bit, but Birmingham City are going really strong. They beat Oxford United 1-0 to maintain their unbeaten run, and look good value for a promotion push.
