Derby County player ratings as Carlton Morris earns a point late on in their 1-1 Championship draw with Bristol City

Derby County earned their first point of the season as they secured a late draw with Bristol City as Carlton Morris equalised as the clock ticked towards the 90th minute.

Neither side will believe this is the best they can produce and the result may be considered a fair one after Scott Twine made it 1-0 in the first half, but as they dropped deeper they invited pressure from Derby and the Rams got their reward late on.

Derby County got off to an electric start and looked like they would take an early lead, but Bristol City would be able to weather the storm without being properly tested, allowing them to find their way into the game.

Bristol City would slowly work their way into the match, with their possession increasing minute by minute; however, there were no notable chances for them or Derby.

The Robins would take the lead on the 34th minute mark, as Scott Twine passed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal, giving Zetterstrom no chance, after the ball had been passed to him on the edge of the penalty area, scoring his third Championship goal of the campaign to make it 1-0.

Bristol City would be the more likely of the two sides to find a goal before the close of the first half; however, the score would remain at 1-0 at the interval.

Derby County would start the second half better, similar to their start in the first half, but Bristol would once again establish themselves in the game and then look the stronger of the sides as they attempted to catch the Rams on the counter attack.

As Derby brought their five substitutes on, they injected some energy into the side, and Bristol City would opt to sit in deeper than they had previously, asking Sinclair Armstrong to do a lot of work up top to relieve the pressure.

However, Derby County struggled, but as Bristol City invited the pressure onto them, they made it 1-1 through Carlton Morris.

The Bristol City keeper would fly across his goal to deny Joe Ward an equaliser, but first to the rebound was Morris, and he tucked it home from within the six-yard box.

Derby will look to take the positives from a game where they created nothing, as they denied Bristol City from having chances too, and they will believe they can build off this result.

Derby County player ratings from their Championship home fixture against Bristol City

Jacob Zetterstrom – 7

The goalkeeper has struggled so far this season at Derby; however, he will have gained confidence with his late save to deny Twine a second and a winner from a free kick, injuring himself in the process.

Dion Sanderson – 6

A better performance compared to his previous games for Derby in the Championship this season, as he was steady on the ball and worked hard to deny Bristol City any clear-cut chances.

Danny Batth – 6

A steady performance at the heart of defence, and he will be disappointed with the goal Derby conceded; however, the experienced defender was willing to put his body on the line and was only withdrawn as Derby chased an equaliser.

Matthew Clarke – 5

Similar performances to those in the defensive trio with him; however, he did not appear to be in the positions to deny Bristol City as often as those defenders; however, there was not much of a threat to deny.

Ryan Nyambe – 5

Another player that worked hard but without adding much quality down the right-hand side of the pitch for Derby County and so was replaced on the hour mark by John Eustace as he looked to inject energy into the team.

Liam Thompson – 4

The midfielder failed to dominate himself in the proceedings and looked to be outrun by former Derby County player Jason Knight, and he was withdrawn on the hour mark.

David Ozoh – 5

Like his partner in the centre of the midfield, he struggled to impose himself on the game, with the Bristol City players proving to be too clever, as they denied them space in dangerous areas, while he was not aware of where Twine was for the goal as the player floated between the lines.

Callum Elder – 4

Struggled to get into the game and was unable to add quality down the left-hand side of the pitch for Derby County.

Ebou Adams – 3

He struggled throughout the entire game, and his performance was summed up by the pass he played back towards his central defender going straight out for a corner, as nothing went his way.

Andreas Weimann – 5

Weimann worked hard without much reward, with his only notable effort blocked in the Bristol City area. He was always willing to run in behind or come short but didn’t have the desired effect in the areas closer to the goal.

Carlton Morris – 8

The striker was a constant threat for Derby anytime the ball came his way, and his hold-up play was exceptional at times, and with the one chance he had, the ball ended up in the net.

Substitutes galore for Derby County

Bobby Clark – 6

Looked impressive when in possession of the ball but was never in an area to truly test Bristol City.

Rhian Brewster – 5

The former Sheffield United attacker showed in flashes the danger he could bring to Derby this season; however, he did not have a significant impact on this game.

Joe Ward – 7

It was his header that led to the goal, and he looked dangerous throughout after his introduction to the game. The Bristol keeper denied him a goal, but Morris was on hand to score the rebound.

Kayden Jackson – 5

He almost gifted Bristol City a goal with a poor pass that went straight to a Robins attacker, but he got away with it; however, he did not have much of a positive impact.

Kenzo Goudmijn – 5

In the 20 minutes that he was on the pitch, he did not offer much or have the impact that Eustace will be hoping for.
