Derby County and Bristol City fans in agreement about the ‘shocking’ Sky Sports coverage

Derby County and Bristol City took part in the second Friday night fixture of the Championship this season, with Sky Sports broadcasting the game.

The previous match was the Championship opener between Birmingham City and Ipswich Town, which was a perfect curtain raiser for the season, as it provided plenty of excitement.

Derby County were looking to find form after two defeats in the Championship this season, with their 5-3 defeat to Coventry City being one that hurt the Rams, particularly as the Sky Blues tasted victory at Pride Park for the first time since 2003.

The Rams were considered favourites for the match with Bristol City due to the history and stats indicating that Derby would emerge as winners.

However, while most fans would have tuned into the game in the hope of watching a thrilling encounter between Derby and Bristol City, they were all in agreement about one thing with the Sky Sports coverage.

Derby County and Bristol City fans react to Sky Sports coverage

Sky Sports have been praised recently for their coverage of the EFL, as they have opted to expand the broadcasting of fixtures in the divisions outside the Premier League.

However, fans were complaining about the picture quality that was being broadcast across the United Kingdom for the Derby County and Bristol City match.

One fan said: “Why do all of the players look sunburnt in the Derby v Bristol City match … turn the saturation down a tad!

Another fan asked a similar question, as they tagged Sky Sports: “Any chance @SkyFootball can turn the brightness down on the Derby vs Bristol City match?”

One fan made the observation after flicking over to the Sky Sports coverage of West Ham and Chelsea, with this problem not being evident for this fixture.

They said: “Watching Derby v Bristol City on channel 403 What’s wrong with the cameras? All the players have bright red skin tones on close-up. Colour contrast fault. It’s not a problem with the West Ham game.”

One fan simply said: “Sort the colours out, please!”

Sky Sports’ response to the issue

The broadcaster seemed to be aware of the issue relatively early into the match between Derby County and Bristol City.

The commentator for the Sky Sports coverage, Daniel Mann, made an apology around 15 minutes into the game, with this maybe coming about due to the complaints from fans or a member of staff realising the issue themselves.

While the apology will have been appreciated by fans, there was no mention of whether this issue would be fixed; however, this is not his job, and he would not have been able to make this promise as he continued working on commentary duty.
